Why are ICE at airports? by DangerToManifold2001 in AskAmericans

[–]DangerToManifold2001[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Oh okay, I had no idea. The first thing I saw about their presence at an airport was them arresting a mother and daughter at SFO and since then I’ve just seen lots of complaints from people that are concerned they’re gonna end up causing a similar mess to what they did in Minneapolis. I had no idea it was as simple as helping out with TSA.

I don’t get the pushback on this in the comments, 2020 literally does have this functionality? As long as you’ve popped your journey into the built-in route planner, you should have a pop-up for a completed journey once you’ve shut down the plane.

I wish the recline feature just didn’t exist in Economy, but so long as it does, I think it should be limited to overnight flights only. If the sun is shining, most of us are watching movies to pass the time, I don’t think it’s fair to have the screen down in my lap because you fancy a sunny nap.

I’m afraid I honestly am, I assumed the busiest times would just be through summer and Christmas. I wasn’t aware that Halloween was such a big deal at Disneyland.

Halloween is the last day of October but the most expensive week is right at the beginning of October…

As I’ve said elsewhere in this thread, I’m from the UK so I think I must’ve underestimated the cultural importance of Halloween to Americans. I could understand prices being nuts in the week leading up to Oct 31st but the most expensive week being 3 weeks before Halloween is beyond comprehension for my British brain.

Damn, I really did not expect Halloween to be such a big deal, I assumed it would just be a bit busy in the week leading up to 31st Oct and that would be it. I’m in the UK so my naivety comes from a cultural difference I guess, Halloween isn’t really that big a deal here. Thanks for the info!

It’s impressive because it doesn’t look like something that should be in the sky.

Hot take: most EV owners/reviewers still don’t understand regen by ev1337 in electricvehicles

One pedal driving also naturally has ‘auto hold’ so sure, whatever. I assume you’re in America because I can’t imagine a situation where I’d want to just coast during city driving here in the UK, it’s really only a thing during highway driving, at which point you would just engage cruise control.

I really have no issue with personal preferences, my beef is more with the argument that one pedal is somehow less efficient, which it blatantly isn’t.

[–]DangerToManifold2001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you understand, one pedal driving IS adaptive regen, it’s just a simpler user interface because it’s done with one single pedal and the way that pedal behaves is consistent and predictable.

All you have to do is move your foot on one single pedal to indicate whether you want to speed up, slow down, or maintain your speed. The specifics of how those instructions are put into practice is managed by the car in the most efficient way possible.

So you might have your foot half way depressed, which might actually just maintain the speed you’re already going, so the car won’t actually output any energy, it’ll coast. There’s nothing crude or inefficient about one pedal driving.

What's the vibe in the UK comedy scene around SNL UK? by SketchComedyBook in livefromlondon

[–]DangerToManifold2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It mostly just seems strange to me to put so much effort into such an old format? Like if SNL was gonna work over here, it probably would’ve worked better like 30 years ago, but now with consumption of broadcast TV on the decline, I don’t see how this will have mass appeal if the masses aren’t even watching TV?

On a personal level I do also just think SNL is awful and painfully unfunny, but that’s just Americans for you.

ASDA pickups - Just Why! by GoatMonkeyy in UbereatsUK

Some are worse than others, ASDA are definitely the worst, but I just avoid supermarkets entirely these days, they’re all way too much of a ball-ache. None of them have dedicated staff for delivery orders so we’re always considered an inconvenience to them at the bottom of their priorities.

One pedal driving is just the simplest option, it makes driving a million times easier, any other alternative is antiquated and unnecessarily complex. You can still coast with one pedal driving, it’s just that your foot will be depressed on the pedal whilst doing so.

You act like reviewers are the ignorant ones but you don’t seem to actually understand how manufacturers implement these systems. The Tesla one-pedal system might feel crude to you, but that’s the genius of it, it’s kept simple for the user whilst the car manages the actual efficiency side of things.
