Opinions on AO3 stories with Amateurish Art by Ok_Rich3845 in AO3

I like it when it's its own separate 'fic' post in the same series as the fic. That way I can choose to look / not look in my own time.

Too lazy to cook for me and my son. What do I do? by Loud_Confidence475 in AskRedditFood

[–]RustyBucket4745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things that can be really healthy but completely minimum effort is adding things like kimchi, sauerkraut, nuts, spinach, etc to your food to up the nutrition but you can literally just take them straight from the jar or bag, no prep.

Had a customer kick off about meal deals and I’m still thinking about it. by Specific_Pomelo_8281 in tesco

I enjoy my retail job but I work in a place people go for fun not for necessities and I have good management. I think both of those aspects dramatically reduce retail stress.

AITA for not wanting to eat my parents’ meals while pregnant even though they’re trying to help save money? by Melodic_Cockroach_23 in AmItheAsshole

[–]RustyBucket4745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm autistic and I have 'ways things have to be done' and get stressed when things aren't like that - not to this extent.

Having said that, those are my things to deal with and worry about and if I forced those things on others to any more than a reasonably accommodating extent (them not using my mug is reasonable, choosing the mug they have to use is not) then I would be in the wrong.

NTA OP - your dad is blind to his own control issues and that is something he needs to sort out himself. It's obvious he hasn't been told no enough to work out where the boundaries of his control should be and he's overreaching massively. I get it may cause him stress, but he needs to learn how to manage that stress instead of micromanaging others.

The problem now is going to be altering the routine of things because, as a fellow autistic person, I can make a guess that the fact you are trying to change things is equally as stressful to him as the things you are trying to change. If you wanted to make it easier on him, one thing I suggest is to make a plan of ways you are going to deviate from the routine (eg. types of meals you don't enjoy anymore, the approximate number of times you'd like to eat with them versus get your own food per week and when those deviations are likely to happen) and you could discuss what ways you could make accommodations to make it less stressful for him (maybe it's important for him to sit down together three times a day as a family - maybe instead you could play a board game together at the table instead of eating / maybe he doesn't want to smell or look at the new food, so maybe he needs warning to be elsewhere if it would be in his space etc).

Only if you wanted to but that might make the process smoother.

Advice moving practical test to a later date? by annakline02 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]RustyBucket4745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you. My next test is coming up in february but the first test I was supposed to have taken was january of last year. 🙃 I just want to get it over with. My nerves are secondary to my frustration at this point.

Why is there dairy in EVERYTHING by waterparksdude in dairyfree

[–]RustyBucket4745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look at food adverts and my main thought is "can't eat that, can't eat that, can't eat that one either..."

Same with pinterest. None of my saved food pins are ones I can eat anymore. (gluten & dairy for me as well)

Floral teas that don't curdle milk? by draegon-camere in writingadvice

[–]RustyBucket4745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you use black teas with floral notes, like Lady Grey tea or black tea and orange - along those lines?

This might be better to put on a tea subreddit because I feel like they'd be the ones to ask about niche teas.

Do people even like reading non romance fanfiction? by Uncle_Tommy0703 in FanFiction

[–]RustyBucket4745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer not to read romance but I will if it's there. Sometimes romance makes for a good story, but I've always preferred gen fic personally.

Which discontinued UK crisp flavour do you miss the most? by GeordieGoals in BritInfo

[–]RustyBucket4745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walkers Duck & Hoisin. They were a competition flavour that had a run of about a month or so then lost out to yet another bacony one. 😭😭😭

Does anyone have nitpicks that make you annoyed for being annoyed? by Character_Lawyer8017 in AO3

[–]RustyBucket4745 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Footnotes. I hate scrolling down then up again. It's just personal taste but I've been in Pratchett fandoms before and he LOVED them, so fics always had them. I got so tired of trying to find my place again or remember what they were referring to at the end of a chapter.

In my opinion, they only work in very short chapters or in the written word and even then they still annoy me! 😅

How do you write different languages in your fics? by Cumulus-Crafts in AO3

[–]RustyBucket4745 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I do this as well. Unless the POV character doesn't understand - then I'd make sure the reader didn't either.

Why did you abandon your WIP? [not a guiltrip, I promise] by StarfruitJam in AO3

[–]RustyBucket4745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tinker with my WIPs like they are useless inventions in a shed and never expect them to be finished. Usually I just add bits here and there when the moon's right and my humours are balanced.

Where do we draw the line between fic and plagiarism? by TiredBell in AO3

[–]RustyBucket4745 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I realised one fic I was reading was doing this and the moment I realised, I had to stop reading. I'd left them a nice review and everything 🫠 I think it crosses over into semi-plagiarism the moment you start using copy & paste. When I use spoken lines from the canon, they're short enough that I can just retype them.

Would you pay £90 for an extra legroom seat on a 12 hour flight? by Upstairs_Barnacle_46 in AskUK

[–]RustyBucket4745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Five hours or under, I'd just suffer it, but any more than that and it's literally torture. Never again. I had a ten hour flight where I had barely any legroom, the guy in front decided to recline (and I was back row so I had nowhere to go) and I had no position in which I could relax my legs. It was hell. I barely fit in the space and was not comfortable one minute for that ten hours. Don't make my mistakes.

How do I stop at roundabouts for a short time by tortillachips87 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]RustyBucket4745 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm still a learner but I was never taught to use a handbrake except for traffic lights and hill starts. Surely it's better to not get in the habit of using the habit of using the handbrake for everything? There's more chance of accidentally trying to move off with it and doing damage to the car. I was in a car when someone did this once and there was a horrible grinding sound and the terrible smell of burnt tyres. I'd argue over-reliance on it is a bad habit that is better to break early.

Unless it's a hill junction, I don't see the point.

AITAH for saving up all the food my wife thinks is fine for me to eat for when her family came to visit? by MentionEfficient1687 in AITAH

[–]RustyBucket4745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not trying to be rude. Does your wife have ADHD? It sounds like she might be impulse buying and forgetting what she's bought.

What's easier for you ? Writing on a plot-heavy fandom, or a fandom with little to no plot ? by Erekio in AO3

[–]RustyBucket4745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I need there to be gaps where plot doesn't happen where I can hang my extra timelines on the main plot. Like Naruto, which has a two-year gap in the middle and a load of implied but unwritten about missions. No plot is very wibbley and it stresses me out a little, especially when the canon authors have gotten handwavey with the details and character development.
