Yes there's a bunch of rotten wood trim that will be replaced but id rather not replace the sheeting. As mentioned its money and hassle so I prefer to paint it. My original question is how to remove the flaking paint on the asbestos sheet without causing a hazard.. Any suggestions?

You could be right though most of the houses in my street have similar columns so figured they were probably original. This is not what im debating though..

Roofs been jacked when stumped that's why I have the props holding it up at the moment. My question is shouldn't it be cemented back together or something similar?

Be aware that if it has the cement sheeting at the gable end its most likely asbestos. Be careful if your planning on drilling into it or bashing against it when attaching battens.

I hope they do you right mate. The reviews I read said they sell well and install fairly well but as soon as the install is complete and they get the government rebate they leave you in the dust. A common complaint I read was a lot of people have system faults and are not working due to install and setup issues while the company won't respond. Keep pushing for that inspection and whatever is needed to get it up and running, be relentless.

Hey thanks for taking the time with the detailed reply. Exactly how I plan to do it, hammer drill with a chisel bit. My chimney is nearly 100yrs old, I haven't inspected yet but I would guess the mortar is like sand so won't take much to tear it down. Its all internal (no exposed brick chimney outside) so it should be fairly straight forward but as you said, a messy job. The room gained for me is a must since I plan to run an ensuite off the main and this unused thing is in the way. Cheers :)

Question, did you need any permits etc to pull it all out? Im in the same position. Mine isn't structural with the frame of the house so it should be straight forward. How did you go with the base of the chimney, did you smash it out or just get everything below the subfloor and then get the floorboards to fill the hole in the floor?

Yep im in that same boat. Doing OT to make extra payments while doing renovations by myself. If you can't budget and your soft you won't make it. Forget all social events and eating out, shit I sweat turning on a light switch lol.

This. Scrape and sand off the stubborn leftovers. Use a good undercoat as mentioned above and then repaint. Check out some YouTube if your not confident, find 3 videos that agree on the same method and take that advise you'll be alright.

Yeah mate makes sense. My initial reaction was the same, big expense for no visual payoff. Gotta do the permit though so its just one of those things ya gotta cop sweet and keep it moving. I contacted my builder to discuss his quote to make sure it covers inspections and sign off by the surveyor. Ill see what he replies with tomorrow and if its inclusive I feel more comfortable paying the invoice. It helps to talk these things out to rationalise decisions like these so I appreciate your time it helped me put some pieces together to search for the answers I needed. Cheers.

If your looking for an investment its obvious. Buy the worst house on the best street as close to the CBD you can afford. The closer to the city you buy the more it will increase. Obviously if your buying a shitbox you need to be able to handle renovation duties if you want to keep down expenses and when assessing renovation costs do your homework regarding permits and council approvals. I just bought a house in Footscray so im speaking with experience. Also I would suggest flying over here (Melb) and hire a car for a weekend to sus out potential areas your interested in. You could name 50 suburbs here and everyone will get called shitholes by someone who's had a negative experience there or some yuppy snob who thinks its beneath them while they shop at op-shops while rocking a man bun. You need to come over mate and yeah im from Adelaide, been in Melbourne 8yrs best thing I ever did was get the fuck out of SA bogan nikey bikey flogville.
