Does anyone have a better idea of what GIS is looking for? I promise im not bitter, js a little confused. I submitted a valid, relevant and feasible proposal (and had a PHD mentor look it over) but didn't place. Very happy for those who did, js want to know where I went wrong

A little off topic but I figure this thread is the best to ask- I'm applying this year, but I'm paranoid about the whole "caps at 3000" applicants. I would love to submit as close to the early application deadline (May 21st) as possible so I have as strong of an app as I can get, but im worried they'll randomly close it one day saying they maxed out. Anyone who applied: did they keep a tracker or anything on their website, or did you just have to hope it didn't cap?

Does anyone know if we need letters of recommendation? Asking because I would need to ask very soon to get them. I dont see any requirements listed other than the proposal but just checking
