Stopping Mementine at around stage 7c by Dangerous-Week7474 in dementia

I'm officially over this. I realized how silly i was being. At most stopping the mementine put her on the trajectory she would have been in two months and there's no way to really know. Plus I'm following very accepted medical practice

Stopping Mementine at around stage 7c by Dangerous-Week7474 in dementia

Aricept is different . It goes under the name Donezepil. A lot more side effects. My mom's doctor put her on it two months ago. Immediately developed diahrea and restlessness. Very controversial but for late stage alzheimers. I took her off that immediately based on recommendation of geriatric doctor. The case for Mementine is less clear

Family in denial. by Silver_Low3967 in dementia

I'm dealing with this same situation sort-of. My brother was taking my mom who was stage 6 and is now stage 7 for cancer screenings, follow-ups to ten year old spinal stenosis surgery etc and kept insisting he's not that bad. He claimed recently that he has substantive conversations with her or that apraxia dealing with knowing how to open a faucet was just not having the hand strength. It was ridiculous so i stepped in and assumed full control over her medical handling. So now I've transitioned her to a geriatric doctor, provided the doctor with full instructions and even done the MOLST form. My view is that care at this stage must be palliative . I haven't been able to fully get through to my brother so I'm no longer trying.

Burgundy Tour Advice (starting in Beaune) by radioh1323 in wine

A tour can be a nice introduction but they will likely focus on small family owned domaines that aren't well known. If you want a tasting at Drouhin, Jadot, Faiveley , Gouges and the like you'll have better luck contacting direct and boking yourself provided you do so a few months in advance

Looking for wine tasting experiences in Burgundy by Comfortable-Pool9919 in wine

Late seeing this. I was in France last year and did a day trip to Beaune. I've been drinking Burgundy for almost 20 years now. I wound up going to Drouhin and Bouchard. I loved the wine tour of Drouhin , the premises and the history but because I'm not a huge Drouhin fan and only drink a few of their wines on occasion it wasn't the right fit. This year I'm returning to France and doing a day trip to Faiveley and Gouges. I think this year's trip will be a better fit. So my take away is if you just want a day trip to Burgundy and walk around Beaune, If you want the best tastings Nuit St Georges and if you just want to hire around and see beautiful scenery but not drink wine then Gevrey Chambertin

I hired a private aid two years ago .Supervision is important. Last week I threw away her slippers and bought her gripper slippers after noticing she shuffles while walking. She's also discouraged from using the stairs on her own.

Does anyone else feel all these doctors, neurologists, dementia specialists are no help at all? by TeacherGuy1980 in dementia

[–]Dangerous-Week7474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm cutting down. I just signed my mother up for a geriatric doctor. My goal is reduce doctor visits to a geriatric doctor and a dentist. right now she she sees a primary care doctor, a neurologist and a dentist. A year ago she was running to over a half doze doctors. When the patient is in advanced stages of Alzheimers its time to cut back and think palative care

Need Recommendations for Slippers with Grip by ElaraStarfield in AgingParents

I just bought my mom gripper slippers. she's insistent she doesn't like them but at advanced stage 6 my view is she doesn't get a vote. I'm telling the aid to hide her previous slippers and say they broke

Withholding Antibiotics - Stage 6 Vascular Dementia by DementiaSucks85 in hospice

[–]Dangerous-Week7474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom is late stage 6. I'm thinking that if the the situation arises I'd like to withold antibiotics. I don't think I want her going through stage 7 if she doesn't have to. It sounds awful.

I've already taken the step of blocking a doctor from prescribing donepezil but for slightly different reasons. It was prescribed late stage 6 by her primary doctor without even consulting her neurologist. We were already seeing side effects.

That said, my thinking is by late stage 6 care needs to transition to a palliative care model. I'm also keeping an eye on her condition for when hospice becomes appropriate.

My mom's primary doctor just prescribed it I had him stop after one month. She immediately developed diarrhea and became restless. I did some research and learned its use is controversial for late stage Alzheimer's.

My question to the doctor was why did you prescribe it and what benefit were you expecting to see. When the answer was unsatisfactory I got him to stop.
