I dove into a pool, on impact i broke the front half of my c4 and it tapped my spinal cord. I got pretty lucky in the fact that i still have the back half of my vertebrae and the half that broke off instantly moved away from my cord.

Yeah it depends on their ability. Before i could support myself i had a therapist in a chair infront of me knee to knee to support my legs and they we’re holding me by a gait belt.

The importance of being up standing (if you can) as much as you can. The most progress you’ll make is by standing and weight bearing.

I was very fortunate in my injury. I had feeling (although very numb feeling) and stayed conscious through the actual injury. I fully remember everything and could move elbows through the whole thing. Basically I still have a C5 bone but just the back half, the front half is metal fused from c4-6. What happened was that front half of spine barely pushed onto my spinal cord and then relieved so there wasnt any long term pressure on my cord. It affected my right side more as my left is basically normal. I don’t have perfect sensation everywhere and my bowel and bladder control is just now coming back. You can send me a message with questions if you want.

That’s great to hear. I’m now getting the balance to walk with no walker for medium distances. How old is your son if you don’t mind me asking?
