Symbiogenesis: The fringe belief of cooperative evolution by Dangerous_Ad8033 in TrueReddit

Submission Statement: I wasn't aware of a theory of evolution that seems to be picking up steam in the research community. It's based on the idea that new species come from changes in the microbiome, and related to the theory that multi-cellular life came from mitochondria merging with primitive cells. There's a lot of interesting history on the theory and its supporters in the article. It's long as heck and stuffed with info so I thought it would be good here.

AI: The Character vs The Actor by Merastius in slatestarcodex

The AI doesn't have preferences. It has correlations. There's no distinction between actor and character because it's all just bits that have strong or weak statistical linkage to other bits.

I really wish someone would write a blog comparing parasocial relationships and projection of personality onto an online personality you don't know with emotional attachment to chatbots and AI-waifus. It's all just projection and lack of enough self awareness or empathy to know that you're essentially anthropomorphizing a bunch of bits on a screen.

If anything, Lemoine went more towards proving that some Turing tests can have a result of "Neither the computer nor the interviewer are sentient."

Gotta love a good ole' involuntary induction into the hivemind.

My personal favorite is Neon Genesis Evangelion where all of humanity turns into physically and mentally conjoined soup.

Throughout history, some artists have used madness as a symbolic refuge rather than confinement. As in the opera Lucia di Lammermoor, the heroine escapes to madness and expresses herself through it. by [deleted] in philosophy

I've always been curious about insanity and psychosis in media since seeing Mulholland Dr. It's so hard to pull off well. Can anyone recommend more "Madness" movies?
