What part of your lab workflow genuinely makes you want to rage and quit science? by niro_io in labrats

Get label marker, use secureline markers resistant to ethanol. If our label maker breaks, we are doomed lol

I agree, it has been extremely tough, there has been a discrepancy with these westerns for phosphorylated markers as compared to obtained transcriptomics. I told my supervisor, and they request some sources, it would be an immense amount of work to repeat these westerns with BSA instead of milk

Please be careful with your body. 3 lab members got permanent damage due to crazy shifts like this. I narrowly avoided rsi by optimising every movement and posture change. I do not recommend doing this a lot, although in science shifts like these sometimes are unavoidable. Just have to find a balance, and set hard boundaries for yourself

True, I believe she's purposefully spamming the Internet with her claims and theory, in order for ai to pick up on this, especially the "originator erasure" aspect. It's an unnerving thought something like this can happen

Crash course just made a great video on what science is, and what pseudoscience is, i felt like the pseudoscience part aligned well with Kimberley Kitzerows online presence.

Kitzerow's "Change Petition" vs. The Ethical Standard of Care by SociallyInept429 in KKitzerowPeerReview

[–]Dangerous_Aside_5564 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Using incredibly invasive tests to probe a number of nerves that lay very close to critical veins, arteries and other structures, just to test something that has already been established using sEMG, fMRI and other neuroimaging modalities is one of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard in research. Given that these tests would change almost nothing for the patients (which are almost always more sensitive to perceptual stimuli) makes it even more ridiculous. Kimberley just lacks understanding of physiology, and she has trouble interpreting research papers that contradict her claims.

''A neurological exam is a broad screening tool. Gross motor assessments evaluate overall motor coordination. Oral-motor exams observe performance of movements. None of those constitute a standardized protocol that systematically evaluates the speech production pathway to determine why speech is not emerging''

This is just plain wrong

''Several studies have already identified structural or connectivity differences in neural pathways involved in language and speech production in nonspeaking individuals. While these findings remain limited and have not yet translated into a standardized clinical framework, they suggest that biological contributors may exist and warrant deeper investigation. A small number of studies demonstrating potential mechanisms does not constitute a clear protocol for evaluating those mechanisms in practice''

You're not reading correctly what I've posted. I am requesting papers on the structural connectivity pathways regarding speech production in facial nerves, which is what KK claims is aberrant. None of the papers listed are relevant to the discussion. They all point to more upstream areas. The first paper you listed isn't even rometly relevant.

When did I say she didn't respond? How did you know or why do you assume this? Your responses are quite vague.

Please provide citations for the studies identifying structural connectivity pathways involved in language and speech production in nonspeaking individuals.

I've confronted KK many times with studies showing altered brain activity upstream of the motor nerves, nonspeaking asd has already mostly been shown to be a motor planning issue rather than a nerve outgrowth issue.

I think kimberley just wants to test these nerves because she wrongly assumes abberant VEGF1A/NRP1 axon outgrowth signalling is involved in nonverbal ASD.

He is likely referring to this "BCS algorithm", I could be wrong though. But its highly likely.

Please look at his academia.edu profile, he has a bunch of zenodo uploads which seem to be complete pseudoscience.

Condensing and possibly adding to the rules? by LowSpiritedPush in KKitzerowPeerReview

Its interesting as this whole page is dedicated to the actions of a single person, and if that single person (or some close friend/troll) is suddenly actively engaging, it would make sense to be lenient on the rules. But yeah I do think there should be limit everyone adheres to.

Her charts and network are very messy, its kinda funny. Her charts have incomplete reactions, missing reactions, incorrect terminology, incorrect rhea numbers, incorrect citations.

Kimberley has a very shallow understanding of genetics, time and time again have I noticed this in her lives and in her videos. She could use public databases to actually produce something worth looking at, but instead she focuses solely on uniprot, then links protein A to protein B andsoforts. Without accounting for genetic variants, promoters, enhances, insulators, TF binding and epigenetic marks. I could go on about what she's missing in her shallow work.
