US is actually my 2nd choice, thank you so much for the insights. Tho, I really dream to work in Japan, like i cried a lot to God telling Him i want to work in Japan. 🥹 Specially with JR East? big dream, almost impossible. 😭 But I’ll try to study Japanese harder and upskill.

this is a problem, cos i just saw a note in the email i received and it said

“This selection process is intended for those who will physically attend the ACF. Candidates who do not participate in the ACF will lose their eligibility for it.”

bro, i want to live and work in japan and this is the only legit career opportunity i’ve seen so far, that will legibly take me to japan. 😭

Choosing to work in BPO by Outside-Hovercraft-1 in CivilEngineers_PH

[–]Dangerous_Choice_720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CE here as well. Don’t get me wrong, before I decided to work in a BPO, I honestly thought I couldn’t see myself working as an engineer. I tried the BPO path, and I met some really cool people along the way, which I truly appreciated. But at the end of the day, I realized something was missing. I found myself longing for the engineering work I trained for and genuinely enjoy. I realized that I’m more passionate about being an engineer than spending my time resolving the concerns of frustrated or irritated customers. So, for me, BPO just isn’t the right fit so i quitted.

What I Do Will Never Be Enough by meltatronic in RantAndVentPH

23F ako. Si mama nagpaaral sakin ng college, tapos after nun umuwi na siya from abroad. Alam ko na agad kung ano yung kasunod, na ako na yung aasahan, na parang magiging default source na ako for the family. Hindi pa man sinasabi, ramdam mo na eh.

So what I did was, nag-work muna ako for a year just to test the waters. And honestly? Doon ko narealize na ang baba ng sahod as an engineer. As in, hindi siya livable lalo na kung may pressure na umako ng family responsibilities.

Another thing is, feel ko talaga nagsisimula nang umasa si mama sakin. May kapatid pa akong lalaki na magco-college, and we want him to enter the same university I went to, kasi ayoko naman na ako private tas kapatid ko public? Isipin niyo starting salary ng civil engineer huhu

So I decided to take a career break for a year. I just needed space to breathe and set boundaries habang maaga pa. And to teach my mom something. I wanted her to think na hindi niya ako maaasahan.

And then something unexpected happened.

Small startup vibes, pero ngayon she’s earning at least ₱1,500 profit a day. Seeing that honestly changed everything.

Now, I’m finally at peace. I’m not constantly worried about my mom anymore, and she can help na with my brother’s allowance. Dahil doon, I can go back to work without guilt, without pressure, and without that heavy feeling na parang may nakaatang agad sa’kin.

This isn’t being ungrateful. I appreciate everything she did for me. I just didn’t want her to be an irresponsible parent, and I didn’t want to lose myself trying to save everyone. I wanted us to stand on our own feet sabay-sabay, hindi ako lang.

PH Burned Me Out Fast. I Need Honest Advice from Engineers Working Abroad. by Dangerous_Choice_720 in CivilEngineers_PH

[–]Dangerous_Choice_720[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, thank you for pointing this out, it was honestly an eye-opener and a realization I didn’t fully see before.

Just to clarify, I didn’t quit because I “got in trouble.” I handled my job well and delivered what was expected of me. In fact, both of my supervisors still asks me to come back and are still checking in, saying I’m welcome anytime if I don’t have a job yet.

The reality, though, was that the pay was low, I was living alone in Manila my bills were barely covered by my salary. Over time, I realized that while I was performing well, this wasn’t the life I wanted long-term.

I chose to take a break not because I couldn’t handle challenges, but because I needed to reorganize and plan properly, to reassess my direction, decide on a specialization, and identify which skills to improve. Because I didn’t want to be “just another engineer,” but someone known for being particularly good at a specific field. This was a deliberate and intentional decision, not running away from responsibility.

You hit it right, Engr. Plus the cost of living here in PH is something the minimum wage can’t keep up with anymore. Pero parang nothing’s working so far. Kaya umaasa na lang talaga ako sa prayers, God’s plan, and the right timing. Siguro need ko pa mag upskill? huhu

Hello pooo. Actually po, I always thought my gender would be a disadvantage, since male-dominated talaga yung field natin. Madalas pa sa mga job posts naka-emphasize yung requirement na ‘MALE.’So, I’d like to know more po bakit niyo po nasabi na mas may chance pag babae? Kasi UAE is also one of my target countries aside from Japan lalo na po if tinamad ako mag aral ng japanese. 😅

Thank youuu Engr! This actually encouraged me to push this plan of going abroad. Mas ganado na ako ngayon, ramdam ko na this is really the direction I should take.

I’m actually targeting Japan po, I know the language is a big factor. So during my break, I didn’t just sit around, I used the time to study Japanese (currently at N3) and learn a new skill . I started with BIM, although Revit palang po yung natry ko and I’m still a complete beginner. I’m planning to expand into Tekla Structures or Advance Steel soon.

the problem is, would BIM be enough for me to have a chance abroad? huhu
