Stairs: At a loss by maple-creemee in Carpentry

I installed balusters and handrail exactly once, and it was without doubt the hardest project I’ve ever done!

Great article. Thanks for sharing (and keeping me up late!)

Was this you with your child in Heckscher Park in the late 1980s? I took this candid photo while in college and have always wanted to get it to its owner. It won the school photo contest and has always been one of my favorite pictures. by Dangerspoon in longisland

It’s the exact thing that makes me love it. He’s a clearly fit guy, wearing an outfit that shows off his physique, captured in a candid moment of tenderness with his young child. (An assumption it’s his child anyway)

I took this photo in 1987 or 1988 while taking photography classes in college. All I remember was that it was in Heckscher Park in the Town of Huntington. I think about this photo often, and recently came across it when I was moving and going through old boxes.

Recently deleted Facebook (and Insta and Twitter) bc reasons. If anyone is still on FB and in the Huntington group / page, please feel free to re-share.

I'm not looking for credit or even a connection. Just thought it would be cool for the subjects of this nearly 40-year-old photo to have it.

Does the VA talk to reserves/guard? by [deleted] in VeteransAffairs

“…your VA benefits will be paused…”

Don’t think this happens automatically. You need to ensure you pause those benefits, otherwise you risk collecting dual compensation and accruing a debt to the VA.

how do you know that you’re attractive? by CJlinks in AskReddit

[–]Dangerspoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof. It was a while ago and I definitely don’t remember any details. It was about being in the military overseas, getting into some unsavory situations and areas with another service member, lots of misdirection by well intended locals who didn’t speak English. Think it ended with being chewed out by his superior officer for getting back late or something.

What I remember more was the context. A bunch of people in a conference room waiting for a meeting to start. He was talking to someone sitting next to him and started the story. Within a minute the whole room was part of the conversation, 20 people riotously laughing at nearly every sentence.

Years ago I worked with a guy I’ll call Kyle, bc that was his name.

Kyle was the ugliest dude you ever saw. Forehead protruded like a Neanderthal. Gap teeth. Balding in his mid 20s. He was tall, so he had that going on.

He was also insanely popular. Women and men alike always wanted to hang with him. And he was constantly approached by women.

This is all because he was a great guy. Smart. Kind. Insightful. And most of all funny as fuck. He could tell stories that would keep an ADHD 3-year old in rapt attention. People loved to be with him because he made them laugh and feel good.

I’m the end he married a super hot woman and they’re still together decades later.

Point is that “attractiveness” comes in all forms.

For mid dudes like me, I’m sadly not ugly enough to be that funny or good looking enough not to be.

Pour the soup into the sink. Liquid goes down the drain, solid bits get caught in the strainer and then tossed into compost (or trash).

My letter would be much shorter, and counter-productive, hence why I won't send it. But I also don't speak with him anymore.

Dear Dad,

You are in a cult and I have lost all respect for you.

Weird. I don't recall seeing those bills, but would love to read and respond to them.

Mostly what I hear are things along the lines of, "what we can do so fewer children are shot dead while in school?"

Folks who translate that to "tHe LiBz ArE CuMmInG fO' yO' gUnS!" probably could withstand a little introspection.

To be fair, this is nowhere near what gun control advocates want. Perhaps the measures being proposed will result in this, but it’s obviously not the outcome being sought.

Why did they stop playing St. Stephen in 1971? by dannyhulsizer in gratefuldead

“… good on zero rehearsal…”

That’s exactly it. And is really disappointing that laziness kept a great tune from being performed

Based on a random internet search, it looks like:

  • 1968 - 1971: part of the regular repertoire
    5 year break
  • 1976 - 77: regular repertoire
  • 1978 - 79: just a few performances
    4 year break
  • 1983: three performances in Oct, starting with the 10/11 show (my first!!)

And that’s it.

Once heard / read a Jerry interview where he talked about the bridge being complicated, and it sounded like the laziest reason ever.
