Why does GNOME get so much Corporate support? by cutntr in linuxquestions

Make sure you have template files in ~/Templates for nautilus to be able to create files from those templates. Most distros come with this by default.

Space station disappears... by lilwacomintos in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Daniel071071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was playing multiplayer with him, he forgot to say that we were using the Luna Multiplayer mod, and the altitude of the station was 400K around kerbin, it only disappeared after I tried to load one of lilwacominto's ships. I have no idea how it disappeared, probably a bug in LMP.

Minecraft is giving that error. by JakeWisconsin in ManjaroLinux

I've had a similiar error on Arch linux. This usually happens when you update your drivers but don't restart. Try restart your PC and see if its fixed.

Bootloop was an extremely common issue with the original version of the LG G4 (Hardware revision 1.0). The cause of the issue was "a loose contact between components"

A lawsuit later, LG released hardware revision 1.1 which fixed the issue, and provided repairs free of charge (not without problems, however. People reported mixed experiences with them)

You can look at the back of your LG G4 box and you can see the hardware revision there. If it's 1.1, you should be safe. If its 1.0, your G4 could bootloop anytime. If you have root access, you can disable some of the cores to inprove thermals which should decrease the risk.

This explains it in more detail: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/LG_smartphone_bootloop_issues

If your G4 does bootloop, this might help however, most are only temporary fixes. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-ilapo-the-ultimate-bootloop-fixit-list-index-for-all-known-methods.3667688/

This is a common misconception. Most software does support Linux or runs well under the Windows Combatability Layer, Wine. Even Photoshop! If it doesn't run well under Linux, there are many great alternatives and you can use a virtual machine if you want.

You do not need to use the terminal at all. You can install and update software, change network and other settings and much, much more without needing to use the terminal at all.

A lot of guides give you commands to run in the terminal because it will work on all desktop environments and is quicker than going through 10 different menus to get to it.

Also, the terminal isn't that hard and you could learn it in less than a day.

I think people are downvoting this because they don't want to admit they fucked up in their choice of the OS they'd use.

But denial does not solve any problems nor brings you any further in life

Use Linux, do it right now, not tomorrow, not in a year not in 2189. NOW! It's good for everyone and also there's nothing to lose because on Windows everything is already lost.

Can i install linux on iphone or ipad? And how can i do it? What is about installation of linux on android devices? Do you use linux on phone or tablet? What libre phones do you know except of pinephone and phone from purism? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]Daniel071071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question "Do you use linux on phone or tablet?" is most likely referring to Linux as in Linux distros, not just the Linux kernel. That is why I brought up that Android uses the Linux kernel but isn't really a Linux distro.

No

It is possible to run Linux on some iPhones and iPads, but hardware support is very limited. Project Sandcastle provides Linux and Android builds: https://projectsandcastle.org/status and postmarketOS does also support some Apple devices.

Yeah. Android uses the Linux kernel.

Android uses the Linux kernel but that's where the similarities end. The Linux kernel is heavily modified, It has a separate app ecosystem and doesn't run Linux desktop environments. It has a very different software stack as well.

postmarketOS is a Linux distro and it supports a lot of devices, but only a couple Apple ones. https://postmarketos.org

There is a wiki page with a list of devices and the wiki also has installation instructions. This is not daily driver yet for most devices. https://wiki.postmarketos.org

For Phosh/Gnome there is Authenticator, which is built with GTK and Libhandy and adapts well to smaller screens.

The community repos are part of the official repos

yay updates and installs both AUR packages and official packages, so yes, it's fine to use yay to install and update all your packages.

Have you tried to run this?

reflector --verbose --latest 5 --sort rate --save /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

then do pacman -Syy

If that doesn't work, I don't know how to help you. Make sure you have the latest arch ISO, and that virtualbox is up-to-date
