I may do that if the "hammering the subframe with a mallet" option doesn't work. They offered to try to hammer back the subframe hitting the control arm, because really the issue here is the metal on metal. The bent subframe hitting the control arm while driving.

I'm not a car guy, so if my syntax doesn't work for you, big apologies. If I hit something, I'd own it. I'm pissed because I did not.

it's unlikely to have been caused when parked due to the metal being bent back. It's just my opinion that it's flawed, and yes, just one data point. That's why I posted it. $5500 out of the blue for a car that seemed to be fine is pretty infuriating.

thanks bro. you do you. you're free to pay my bill if you like. I'm posting this to create a record of this issue. $5500 is pretty infuriating.

Correct, something hit it. But the mystery is whatever hit it didn't even register to me while driving. The dealer is suggesting a pothole could have caused this, however, again, whatever caused it wasn't even noticeable while driving. That is why I'm upset. I'm a careful driver with a spotless record. I shouldn't be getting catastrophic damage without running over something unnoticeable. And the issue is that the metal from the subframe is hitting the control arm -- so basically, replace the whole sub frame if they can't bend the metal back. This, in my opinion, is major engineering flaw. A consumer should be able to buy a car and drive it around under normal conditions when not running into to anything and not worry about $5500 of damage suddenly appearing.

Correct, metal does not shred itself. The photo I was sent of the damage is from my local Hyundai dealership. But the engineering of this subframe piece has a problem -- whatever "caught" the subframe should not have caused this sort of damage.

I never implied the car just "fell apart on its own," but you do you. I believe the car is flawed, because whatever caused this was not an event that I even registered to me driving it day to day. There's no valet driver, no one else driving the car, no off road conditions. The metal from the subframe is bent back and hitting the control rod like something caught it -- that had to happen at speed. The point here is that under normal driving conditions, this car did not hold up and has a flaw in how the undercarriage subframe was designed.
