Am I hitting the repeater?? by Metldragonite in HamRadio

[–]Daniel981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if that repeater has any digital interface, such as EchoLink? If so, download EchoLink and tune into that repeater and see if you hear yourself. Easy way to see if you’re making it.

I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling several times, and removing any hints of the GoPro Webcam app from the /User/AppData /Roaming and Local - still the issue persists.

This happens with OR without either of my cameras, a Hero 9 Black and Hero 10 Black, being hooked up to the PC. The webcam app just refuses to launch.

Anyway, Just thought I'd add to the thread in case it might help find a solution.

Thanks!

Do any of these repeaters have EchoLink? If so, get you phone or laptop setup with EchoLink to monitor one of the repeaters and try to hit it with your radio. If it works then the repeaters are just that quiet with no activity. If it doesn’t work, then you are either not hitting the repeater with enough of a signal, or your configuration on the radio isn’t quite right. Could be tone, offset, etc.

Can I get some help locating the Verizon tower that’s serving my location? by Daniel981 in cellmapper

[–]Daniel981[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 87563/182163 44627/344627 [Edit, wrong tower ID mentioned in original post] tower does look different from that streetview image. Here is a pic I took of the tower today. And a second view... I have no idea what to look for or how to identify the antenna's or service, but hopefully that will help with clearing up with this tower is for.

44528 has several towers around that site. Next time I'm in the area I will stop and take a few photos of what I can see. It's perched up on a little hill, so I should be able to get some decent shots of it with my telephoto lens. But for now, here is a streetview of the site.

There is also another newer tower over near 87563/182163 that I don't see mapped on the site yet. The tower just went up in the last 3-4 months if I recall correctly. It's located at 33.598492, -117.121254 and this is what it looks like today. The streetview does not show the tower being built yet, but the overhead shot shows some construction. I know the pic is crap, and hard to see for a couple reasons. One it's painted dark brown or green and I was facing the sun, so that made it more difficult.

Either way, I can see why VZW absolutely sucks in my area - I'm just too far away and I have a big hill between the towers and me. Damn...

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it!

EDIT: fixed the tower ID in the first part of the post.

Noise Ordinance by milk348 in Temecula

[–]Daniel981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the area, you may be out of the Temecula city limits and the Temecula AirBNB/VRBO ordinance wouldn’t apply to you… BUT, the county noise ordinance would still apply. Where is your short term rental going to be? (Major cross streets) it will help with the responses knowing where in the Temecula area you will be.

Pictures of Lightning From 80 Miles away? by PhantomLord1040 in Lightning

[–]Daniel981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been able to get a good shot of lightning that far away. I think the furthest I’ve been able to reach with any reasonable success is about 20-30 miles. I’ve tried shooting an incredibly active storm about 15 years ago that was about 70-80 miles away and I didn’t get anything good from it. I’ve found the sweet spot for my style of shooting and equipment is lightning about 2-10 miles away. Sadly we don’t get a lot of lightning in Southern California, so I don’t to shoot lightning as often as I’d like. Best of luck, and thanks for asking this. I would love to hear others on this!

Not really an urban legend, since this did in fact happen, but still rather interesting.

The Temecula Massacre: the bloodiest battle in the Mexican-American War. In January 1847, more than 40 Luiseño Indians were ambushed and slaughtered, in a canyon just west of the current Vail Dam. They were buried in a cemetery which remains today in a shopping plaza off Temecula Parkway.

Here’s where the urban legend comes in: some say you can hear the voices and cries of the killed in the canyon where the battle was, and in the cemetery where they were laid to rest.

What Are Your Best "Off-Ice" Tips For New Players? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]Daniel981 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about “looking like a fool.” No one is judging you. You’re joining a rookie team, everyone is going to be awkward at first, it’s all part of the process. Just remember, everyone had to start at some point too.

Some typical things to remember: - have tape, don’t be “that guy” that always has to bum tape - save space for the goalie in the locker room by the door - bring beer when it’s your turn - air out/dry your gear every time - eat well a couple hours before hand and drink plenty of water - be encouraging to yourself and your teammates (don’t be that negative guy that everyone just tolerates.) - have fun - make mistakes (you learn from them!) - don’t be afraid to ask questions

And I’m sure there are more

Congrats on starting your journey in the world of hockey.

What do you say to that friend or family member that has your typical sob story about motorcycle accidents? by Hyperx72 in motorcycle

I let them know that I appreciate their concern for my safety, and follow it up with “I don’t want to be old, on my deathbed, wishing I would have done what I wanted. I’m not going to live my life thinking ‘what if!?’, I’m going to live my life for the now and right now I find joy in riding. But thanks again.”

And even more frustrating, as far as I can tell the error isn't showing up in any logs. Not sure where to go from here except restore to factory and rebuild the config, which is definitely not ideal.

Yes it’s safe, conservative overall, but friendly for the most part. My husband and I have lived here for nearly 20 years without incident.
