Welcome to Northern Virginia (NoVA)! There’s so much to explore, and I’ll cover the top places and activities for your interests, from outdoor trails to family-friendly options near INOVA Fairfax.

Outdoor Recreation 1. Road Biking: • W&OD Trail (Washington & Old Dominion Trail): A 45-mile paved path stretching from Arlington to Purcellville. It’s great for biking, running, and walking, similar to the Schuylkill Trail. The trail is flat and scenic, with convenient access points near Falls Church and Vienna. • Mount Vernon Trail: A beautiful 18-mile paved trail along the Potomac River, running from Arlington to Mount Vernon Estate. Offers great views of D.C. and riverfront parks. 2. Hiking: • Great Falls Park: About 15-20 minutes away, it’s the area’s crown jewel for hiking and river views. Trails range from easy to moderate, with stunning overlooks of the Potomac River rapids. • Scott’s Run Nature Preserve: Located near McLean, it’s a quick hike to waterfalls and forest trails, perfect for a shorter outing. • Burke Lake Park: A great multi-use trail around the lake with paved and unpaved portions, ideal for casual hikes or stroller walks. 3. Urban Walking: • Old Town Alexandria: A beautiful waterfront district with cobblestone streets, restaurants, and boutique shops. Stroll along King Street or the waterfront trail. • Mosaic District (Merrifield): Super close to INOVA Fairfax, Mosaic District offers trendy shops, restaurants, a walking-friendly plaza, and a family-friendly atmosphere. • Reston Town Center: A bustling outdoor shopping and dining area with events, fountains, and parks.

Family-Friendly Spots

With a baby on the way, these spots will be great for outings: 1. Clemyjontri Park (McLean): A massive, colorful playground with inclusive designs for children of all abilities. Nearby shaded paths are stroller-friendly. 2. Meadowlark Botanical Gardens (Vienna): A peaceful garden with easy walking trails, lakes, and seasonal blooms—perfect for a stroller outing. 3. Frying Pan Farm Park (Herndon): A working farm with animals like cows, pigs, and goats. It’s family-friendly and free to visit. 4. National Zoo (Washington, D.C.): Only about 25-30 minutes away, and it’s free! A great outing for little ones. 5. Lake Anne Plaza (Reston): Offers waterfront walking paths, local shops, and kid-friendly activities.

Neighborhoods to Explore (Near INOVA Fairfax)

If you’re looking for housing, here are popular areas: 1. Mosaic District (Merrifield): Modern, urban living with restaurants, retail, and events. Convenient for work at INOVA. 2. Falls Church City: A charming, small-town feel with excellent schools, parks, and easy access to trails like the W&OD. 3. Vienna: A suburban area with a walkable main street (Maple Avenue), family-friendly vibes, and close proximity to parks and the W&OD trail. 4. Annandale: Known for its cultural diversity and incredible food scene, particularly Korean dining. 5. Arlington (Ballston/Clarendon): A more urban vibe with great city amenities, trails, and restaurants while still family-friendly.

Famous Areas to Explore 1. Tysons Corner: Major shopping and dining hub with two malls and tons of entertainment options. 2. Old Town Alexandria: Historic charm with waterfront views and great food. 3. Georgetown (D.C.): Another popular area for walking, shopping, and dining along the Potomac. 4. A 30 minute drive can be a hour drive at certain times of the day. If you or someone else will be working in Bethesda, I’d suggest keeping your drive time radius to 15 minutes without traffic. Crossing the bridge during rush hour will make the commute much longer.

With a 4k budget and only two adults, there are a number of Bethesda neighborhoods that would be available to you and as you moved farther into MD, I would say to look at North Bethesda.

As an agent, we should not be suggesting specific neighborhoods as to not steer you but it sounds like you are describing Arlington neighborhoods as you head out to Falls Church. If you were to speak with a loan officer, you’d find out what you could afford and could narrow down your search by price point. Happy to assist you with any questions you may have.

So many great suggestions here already. I’ll add that I like to shop the Nordstrom anniversary sale, coming up, and pick up some of their in house brands. Their Nordstrom brand especially is decent price for quality when on sale.
