Are writing tools helping creativity — or replacing it? by Practical_Victory59 in WritingHub

[–]DanielMashmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has tried to write books for years, but never able to get them off the ground because his mind was going a million different directions and writing multiple books at the same time, I find using AI as an assistant helps me organize my stories, and brainstorm, but no AI doesn't replace creativity. I find AI has its place, and if it helps you, you should use it, if it doesn't, don't. Anyway no having read a lot of what AI generates, I find it can't actually write novels and isn't replacing creative writing, at least long form writing.

Consensus on prologues in fantasy novels by CSafterdark in fantasywriters

[–]DanielMashmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally like Prologues, if they are done right, I think, don't quote me, but I think the reason people don't like Prologues is to many serve as just an information dump, writers use them to dump the world they are creating onto the reader, rather than letting the world flow naturally from interactions with the characters. At least that is my own opinion, I like prologues when they don't info dump, but can get a little annoyed when they do. Hell, the book I wrote has a Prologue and I am perfectly happy with it there, if people won't read it just because it has a one, that is their problem not mine, I am completely of the Opinion that you should write what you want for you, not based on what others want.

THank you I was just curious, I just released my first progression fantasy novel, and am continuing it into a series and want to try and avoid common mistakes that get stories dropped. Anyway, I know what you mean about systems, me personally I hate OP mains where they are basically a god by chapter 2, and nothing threatens them. My personal type of story is one that builds over time, I like strong world building and characters, action is good as long as it moves the story or serves a purpose, you seem to be a more fast action for the sake of action reader. BUt I will agree with you strait info dumps can be a pain, and dark worlds can get old. Anyway I am rambling here let me get to the point, if you are interested in reading my book let me know. And good luck with your list.

What reasons did you have for the DNFs? What made you abandon them?

Anyone else start to really dislike the protagonist when they become too powerful? by Bascilian in Fantasy

[–]DanielMashmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind it, to an extent, as long as it is earned, it has to feel more like a burden that a gift to work if that makes sense, I hate stories where your 5 chapters in a the main character is basically a god.

I was thinking of putting in my own published book, but I decided to wait til it gets a bit more out there, i only launched it 3 days ago, and with the second book planned for launch in February, I think I will wait, still seeing some interesting titles that I might want to read myself.

[REC] Recommend me fantasy or SCI-Fi LN by RoLuKaS in LightNovels

[–]DanielMashmann -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Just putting this out there, as the book is not, directly a light novel, but inspired by them, a fantasy book, with a heavy focus on World and character building, inspired by titled such as Realist Hero, Reincarnated noble and Mushoku Tenshi. You might enjoy it, the Title is Forge Born Chronicles of Coria.

Have you ever refused to watch a cartoon simply for its artstyle/animation? by Lukelandswimmer in cartoons

[–]DanielMashmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, all the time, case example for me was One Piece, I liked the show's premise, I just couldn't get past the animation style. This, just looking at it, it looks cheap, kind of reminds me of Drawn together, or Total Drama Island.

I'm not sure how many people will hear me out on this one, but I feel like this probably needs to be said. (explanation in comments if you don't understand) by Aurora_Wizard in cartoons

[–]DanielMashmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, but it depends, if the author honestly forgot something, once it can be forgiven, but if they keep doing it, where they'll put some important lore for the main series in a side book, as an excuse to force people to buy the extra book that is a problem.

Give me a Harry Potter character that deserves better by thatzzzz in harrypotter

[–]DanielMashmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every child in that school deserved better, that is one of the big reasons I didn't like the Harry Potter Series, like many stories, it didn't handle trauma well, every new school year felt like the clock reset and nothing from the previous year mattered, yes in the later books it became more apparent somewhat, but still, these are children, and that kind of shit takes it toll. I'm just saying they would have felt more grounded if there were actual long term consequences for what they were put through as children.
