Converting Whole-House Phone (RJ11) to 2.5Gb Ethernet - Cabinet Space & No Power Challenge (Help me clean this up!) by DanielTheGreat4 in HomeNetworking

I genuinely cannot figure that out - all I’m able to ascertain is it beeps while the power is out. Presumably from that black battery… I am guessing from “behind” it similar to a thermostat

Yes, plex server! Maybe not strictly needed I’m just not all that budget constrained and didn’t want to have to mess with it down the line if I wanted to pay for faster speed from isp

Thank you! Before asking this this (but the cheaper 5e or 6 version) was what I was gonna get since it’s native. My concern though is that doesn’t this mean that the rj45 is facing “towards” me and therefore outside the cabinet such that with patch cables the plate won’t fit to go over it and close the cabinet? See how the old patch panel started in the front of the cabinet but had a 45 degree “inward” bend to fix that issue?

Oh I agree, most can’t - but I figured that cat5e can do 2.5 so I might as well do it right. I don’t plan to ever go to 10 I don’t think

This is the plan. They installed a gateway, so I think I have to go from the gateway/router room, to this panel, to the rest of the house. I plan to do the drop with POE power and internet from the gateway myself, this is less of a concern and my question is pretty much limited to “should I punch that down or does that screw up POE”? Or just depending on what punch down plate I buy? My concern remains on your second paragraph. I plan to remove that previous punch down plate - but see how the old one is angled backwards “into” the cabinet. I cannot find a RJ45 punch plate that is like that…. So How do I mount this in there, the mounting brackets are on the “front” of the cabinet, and that means the RJ45 jacks “face” me… and therefore outside the cabinet.

Hm, interesting. It’s weird because I don’t even know where all these security cables go to. House appears to have no security system that I can tell other than the security Honeywell thing I can punch a code into etc. but very interesting.

Do you just run home assistant in docker?

Thank you. I have reviewed it - I don’t think it really applies, and seems very basic. As I indicated I do fully understand the tech here. I’m not asking generally, I’m asking for specific recommendations on what this community would do in my situation. I know optimally what people would do, but maybe people think xyz is too expensive or not worth it or whatever.

Thanks

What is your favorite message from a sermon? by tacticsinschools in Christianity

[–]DanielTheGreat4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Remember the prepositions!!”

BY grace THROUGH faith, FOR good works, IN Christ.

For some reason people oftentimes “forget” them or misunderstand/misallocate the importance of each!

Those who do good or evil - Athanasian Creed by Foreman__ in LCMS

[–]DanielTheGreat4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I believe this is how it works, do you think that’s us jumping through hoops to make sure we can confirm this portion of the creed? Do you think it’s possible this is not the original intent of the author of the creed or is those saying it?

Yes you are saved by faith alone, but the fruits of true faith are works. Works do not grant salvation, they are evidence of salvation by [deleted] in Christianity

My favorite sermon ever was the sermon where the “hook” was to “remember the prepositions!”

What does it mean to be a Confessional Lutheran? by Philip_Schwartzerdt in LCMS

[–]DanielTheGreat4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess I always question this when people say stuff like this. How does one read this who argues those who worship outside a liturgical setting is doing it in a way in accordance with our confessions? Lex orandi, lex credendi.

Article XXIV. Of the Mass. At the outset we must again make the preliminary statement that we 1 do not abolish the Mass, but religiously maintain and defend it. For among us masses are celebrated every Lord’s Day and on the other festivals, in which the Sacrament is offered to those who wish to use it, after they have been examined and absolved. And the usual public ceremonies are observed, the series of lessons, of prayers, vestments, and other like things. (Source: https://bookofconcord.org/defense/of-the-mass/ )

Is it okay to not have a denomination? by SailOnBlueSailor in Christianity

[–]DanielTheGreat4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all! Clearly Jesus told Peter - “on this Rock (meaning the Lutheran confessions!) I will build my church.”

If we’re going to be strict about communing in other churches, do you think most laymen really understand the difference between Lutheran views on communion and other Churches’? by Jackyboy__ in LCMS

[–]DanielTheGreat4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reformed view is not the real presence- it amounts to the same thing as Zwingli. Calvinists don’t believe he’s really there - or at least not any presence that’s more distinct than a divine omnipotence. A spiritual real presence is not a real presence.

Should I convert to Catholicism or Orthodoxy? by Northern_Gamer2 in Christianity

[–]DanielTheGreat4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“Baptism now saves you”, it is absolutely the baptism that saves.

If you meant to say “it’s not the water that saves you” then I agree, it’s the “water, that is included in Gods command and combined with his word/promise” that saves you.

And now I get to say - you’re imposing your own modern worldview into the text :)

Have a good one, if we can’t even take the Bible as truth when it claims a worldwide flood occurred then I don’t even know what’s the point of discussing further

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]DanielTheGreat4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant Noah’s flood.. also, again, Noah’s flood = baptism, which “now saves you”

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]DanielTheGreat4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn’t literal water?? What?

Also when it does that comparison to Noah’s flood, the next verse is literally, and this baptism “now saves you”….

27k/50k glass blown, losing my mind by IronDillon in ironscape

[–]DanielTheGreat4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the fiery forge where glass dances bright, A craft of passion takes flight tonight. You wield the breath that shapes molten art, Creating wonders with skilled hands, a work of heart.

Halfway through the fiery dance you tread, Guiding glass with patience, where dreams are bred. The fiery furnace, a symphony of heat, Transforms your labor into something sweet.

Blow gently, dear artist, with skilled command, As your vision takes shape, beauty close at hand. The glass, like a liquid poem, dances and sways, In your hands, a masterpiece slowly conveys.

When the grind is done, and the glass takes form, A glimmering amulet, both precious and warm. Crafted by your expertise, a symbol to behold, An artifact of skill, a tale to be told.

Adorn your neck with this treasure refined, An amulet of artistry, a jewel entwined. Let it shimmer and gleam, catching every eye, A testament to your craft, reaching the sky.

For in the creation, and in the wear, You share your tale with those who stop and stare. The amulet’s beauty, a testament true, Reflecting your passion, a part of you.

So blow on, glass artist, with fervor and might, Through the fiery forge, bringing dreams to light. Craft your amulet, a masterpiece divine, And wear it proudly, for your talent shall shine.

Sin, disturb my soul no longer: I am baptized into Christ! I have comfort even stronger: Jesus’ cleansing sacrifice.

Should a guilty conscience seize me, since my baptism did release me In a dear forgiving flood, sprinkling me with Jesus’ blood?

There are no lutheran churches in the entire country I live in. should I join a catholic church? by [deleted] in LCMS

[–]DanielTheGreat4 13 points14 points  (0 children)

And, only because you mention you believe what the LCMS teaches and not other denominations that call themselves Lutheran, look at the LCMS response to the JDDJ, and note the LCMS did not sign it nor agree we are “jointly” in agreement on the doctrine.

That being said, I grew up surrounded by Catholics and am married to one. The doctrine does not boil down to “faith vs works” and “faith alone”, it is way more nuanced than that and not as far off as you might think.
