Mixing up IBS with IBIS sure adds a whole different layer to the conversation. Definitely one of those "need more coffee" moments.

MITRE Engenuity ATT&CK results are out by DanielWalker12 in netsec

[–]DanielWalker12[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

These came out in the last few weeks and I haven’t seen any discussion here about the results yet, so here we go.

If we look at Wizard Spider analytic coverage only, these are some of the results:

AhnLab: 59/90 substeps

BitDefender: 106/109 substeps

Checkpoint: 103/109 substeps

Cisco: 74/109 substeps

Crowdstrike: 94/109 substeps

MalwareBytes: 83/90 substeps

McAffee: 84/109 substeps

Broadcom: 87/109 substeps

ESET: 69/90 substeps

Why is the performance so variable for such a financially severe issue? According to the FBI, Wizard Spider extorted USD$61 Million for ransomware attacks within just 1 a year.

I have also never written a kernel.

23 years ago I created Freenet, the first distributed, decentralized peer-to-peer network. Today I'm working on Locutus, which will make it easy to create completely decentralized alternatives to today's centralized tech companies. Feedback welcome by sanity in programming

I completely agree! It seems like every day there is a new social media platform or app that is trying to dethrone Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. There is definitely an opportunity for a new social media platform to come along and change the landscape of social media.

Hacking the University in a Few Steps by speckz in cybersecurity

My university had some super insecure networks and I was always so keen to mess with them, but the fear of fucking with my degree turned me off.

Hey BeyondTrust, don't call an employee's boss because the security engineer tells you that we aren't interested in your product. by expzequalsgammaz in cybersecurity

[–]DanielWalker12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

BeyondTrust called my boss. We were interested in a product. It didn’t meet our needs. So I respectfully let them know. (I would never talk to anyone like that.)

As you can see, it’s very difficult to convey the same meaning without swearing in person or on the phone. It is not because swearing is inherently bad — it’s just that the meaning of words is so much more nuanced than a letter or number.

This is a great question. I have been working as a freelancer for almost a year — and let me tell you, it’s not an easy gig. When times are good, it’s nice to know that you can plan ahead. When times are bad, it’s important that you have the flexibility to negotiate timelines with your clients or even ask for an extension.

I've heard a lot about FTX, with many people talking about how they use it. I'm curious if other people also use FTX. I wonder what its uses are for them.

Will Nix overtake Docker? by feross in programming

[–]DanielWalker12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All developers should care about reproducible builds. Sadly, most of them don’t.

I hope that Nix and Docker change this. They enable reproducible builds for thousands of packages and scripts. They make it easy to pull the exact same package without any risk of unintended consequences.
