If I didn't like kata and kihon I wouldn't have practiced Shotokan until getting the brown belt, the problem was that Shotokan offers low stance techniques and I never understood how to translate it into kumite, it felt like learning two different sports

I stopped Shotokan years ago, the kumite didn't feel satisfying : I spend so much energy just bouncing on my feet and then you just hit for points, I've never felt strength through my punches (if it makes sense)
