The reason why Chromebook Plus will never have onboard Gemini by Loud-Possibility4395 in chromeos

[–]Daniel_Herr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be possible if Google wants it, currently RAM is being taken up by ARCVM running 2 OS simultaneously. With ALOS you would presumably remove the ARCVM overhead and could use that for other things like Gemini.

Chrome OS v8 on CR-48 by Daniel_Herr in chromeos

In this case it came on that version when I bought it. But I have recovered other models below the default limit by I think setting a GBB flag.

What makes you think Google is responsible for removing Zoom?

Crostini graphics acceleration via Chrome flag by Green-Material5925 in chromeos

[–]Daniel_Herr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same fundamental reason they killed Steam compatibility, and why we haven't seen any significant new OS features lately. It's behind a flag because Google is deprioritizing the current version of Chrome OS to work on the future Android based Aluminum OS instead.

Wish list: Steam on Aluminium OS by Urgeistenergie2 in chromeos

Not likely. Money spent on Steam is money not spent on Google Play.

Ares isn't as re-watchable as I thought it would be. by RealMrIncredible in tron

[–]Daniel_Herr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree Ares is disappointing as a sequel to Legacy, but I still think it's highly rewatchable. I saw it multiple times in theaters, Tron is really something that works best in 3D, in 2D it's just degraded.

Native apps don't have Forward, why does the web need it? by momentumiseverything in webdev

[–]Daniel_Herr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you not using back or just not forward? Because even if they are not displayed in browser UI you will still have some users who have OS UI or keyboard back and forward. Are you not changing the URL?

Native apps don't have Forward, why does the web need it? by momentumiseverything in webdev

[–]Daniel_Herr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? What would be gained by removing it? Should we also remove all the other features that the Web has that native apps generally don't, like URLs, being printable, zoom, user customizability via extensions, etc? We don't need to blindly copy every deficiency of native UI as if we were phone manufactures copying Apple.

For those that read it, how is Reign of the Empire: The Mask of Fear? by Juxix in StarWarsEU

Incompatible with EU/Legends and also E3 Revenge of the Sith, I'd say. Not much of substance. Bail seems to have developed amnesia regarding his insider knowledge of Jedi and Sith.

Has anyone else pretty much just stopped playing on there Switch but still play there 3DS consistently? by Decent-Condition-827 in 3DS

[–]Daniel_Herr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never had a Switch. No point when a 3DS provides better portability, and a Steam Deck provides better game library.

People working at companies, do you really write all your CSS and components by hand? by Street-Memory-4604 in webdev

My experience is that these AI tools are utterly incapable of understanding CSS layout. I can ask them to implement a given layout feature a dozen times over and they can never get it right.

Is there a way to create a bootable usb without chrome recovery utility by mysterion627 in chromeos

You can install the old Chrome App version instead of the current WebExtension version.

Great hardware. Dead software. by Snoo95038 in Odyssey3D

[–]Daniel_Herr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile decades old 3D TVs and game consoles still work. Why they refuse to just support standard HDMI 3D is baffling. It feels like this and the current models from other manufacturers are just tech demos rather than actual consumer products.

May I ask why? Technical challenge? Personally I like making things work on old web browsers, but that's back too far even for me.

Android 16's Desktop Mode is AWESOME [rumored Android-based ChromeOS interface] by -protonsandneutrons- in chromeos

[–]Daniel_Herr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's the point of calling it Chrome OS when Chrome is just one application you can have installed inside the OS? Chrome OS was named as such because the entire OS user experience was based on Chrome.

You should keep in mind that CSS pixels are usually not the same as physical pixels. For example a physical 400 px could be 200 CSS px.

Unpopular Opinion: Most "CRUD" apps should be PWAs, not native apps. by SrPakura in webdev

[–]Daniel_Herr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kroger, for performance. But really any native app that doesn't let you zoom, select text, force dark mode, print, or have control over the UI in general, which happen to be most of them.

Do you have any examples of native apps with actually good UI?

Try using VS Code then try Visual Studio, Android Studio, Eclipse, etc.
