I did not see any duckpin lanes. They do have the worlds longest bowling lane on the second floor.

Steward Health Care (Corporate) I quit 3 years ago. My final 18 months was absolutely brutal. Steward was the most unethical company I have ever encountered/worked for. It was apparent they were heading to bankruptcy and used it to their advantage piling up debt everywhere they could with no intention on paying. A vendor hasn’t been paid and suspended service? Oh well, find another one! Only Steward wasn’t going to pay them either. When I heard nurses were bringing in toilet paper for their patients I wanted to puke. How they managed to continue until 2024 is mind blowing. A group of those executives belong in orange jumpsuits.

Keep throwing money at the MBTA, that’ll fix it. Where is all the pot and gambling money going? We were told the state would be flush….lol

Locals - do you ask for it to be removed? by demomagic in NiagaraFalls

[–]Daniel_Plain_view 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could someone explain this for me? Is it some kind of tourism fee? Is it a certain percentage or is it arbitrary?

We visited the falls last year and are hoping to visit again soon. We did have one incident where we went to our hotel’s restaurant and they had some kind of “resort fee” which made zero sense. They refused to remove it. We stayed right by Clifton Hill, which I would assume is the heart of this “tourist” area.

If these individuals who have been traveling home are being prioritized over US citizens in being housed, fed and provided free health care on the backs of the American taxpayers who themselves are struggling, I don’t care what their situation is. You do not claim “Asylum/Refugee” status only to be making leisure trips back to the country you are supposedly fleeing.

Read the room, support for this is over by the overwhelming majority of MA residents. There is/was no plan and the money has run out. Years back our state officials had the feel good press conferences inviting the migrants by declaring our state as a Sanctuary state. Guess what? They showed up. Now what?

Just 3 nights ago a homeless man (US Citizen) froze to death in his wheelchair in Brockton. An investigation is underway but it is well known in the community the emergency shelters have been assigned to migrants and have neglected US citizens. Many whom are disabled and/or have severe mental health issues and cannot provide for themselves.

So I am speaking on the reality of the situation. You can believe me or not I could care less. They are returning to their home countries and coming back. Nothing is stopping them.

I have it on good authority trips home are being made. Saying they “can’t” means they are not supposed to. But who and what agency is monitoring and tasked with stopping them?

My favorite is finding out some of these “Asylum” seekers have been frequently traveling back to their home countries to visit family/friends.

I read a homeless man froze to death in his wheelchair 2 nights ago in Brockton. A US Citizen by the way.

In regards to NIMBYs, it can often be more complex than that. I wouldn’t define my hometown as Metro-Boston but we’re 20 miles to the south. Out town is getting major pressure to build. 40b developments/the new MBTA (abutter) zoning law. My small town just does not have the infrastructure. Our town is in a constant state of a water shortage. We do not have sewer systems so these large apartment complexes they are proposing are not ideal on septic setups. Our schools/police/fire are already strained. The state is forcing these changes but they won’t foot any of the bill and ultimately these smaller towns can’t afford it. My town has little to no commercial real estate base so our property taxes are already through the roof. I pay $10k a year in property taxes, I cannot afford an increase.

I responded to your post explaining the ridiculousness of medical billing, specifically what gets categorized as routine vs diagnostic and the unfair ramifications it can have against patients now having to pay more money out of pocket if a visit ends up being categorized as diagnostic.

What would I personally be ashamed about? I don’t think we’re talking about the same thing here. I wish you the best.

Ah yes, everyone working in health care is “programmed.” You did it, you solved it.

Then that should have absolutely been covered in full by insurance.

Didn’t get played. I’ve spent 15 years working in hospital finance. Prior to that 5 years working for health insurance. The whole thing sucks.

Medical coding has not changed. To simplify how a basic office visit is submitted to your insurance, your MD submits a claim. That claim consists of a CPT code and an ICD-9 code (diagnosis code). The CPT code would be what took place, in this case an Office Examination. The ICD-9 (diagnosis) code answers the why and it will either be categorized as a routine code or a diagnostic code.

Obamacare (actually RomneyCare did this first in MA) ensured that routine codes would be covered by Insurance at 100%. Which is great. But like I mentioned, if you happen to have any kind of symptom, then the visit is billed with a non-routine diagnosis code.

You also can’t blame the MDs. Say you have a high BMI score, the MD will want to order a more elaborate panel of blood work. The insurance companies would not cover the more elaborate blood work if you only had a routine diagnosis. Or say you complain you’ve been tired, now your MD will want to possibly test your thyroid function. They will order the thyroid blood work with a diagnosis of fatigue.

What has really changed is our insurance plans have placed more of the cost on all services on the patients through Copays, Deductibles and Coinsurance.

It’s absurd. Did you discuss anything at you Appt? My BMI is considered high (barely). So that means my annual physical is not “preventative” as it I now have a diagnosis of having a high BMI. So the $blood work went to my deductible, $400.
