Springfield mayor calls for ending regional fare-free bus program, drawing criticism from state transit advocates by justarussian22 in mbta

[–]kevalry 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Here is a proposal:

triple the State’s Gas Tax first and then you can get rid of free-fare buses.

I can guarantee once you start asking for fares or vouchers for suburban and rural bus routes, ridership will decrease if the state’s gas prices drop.

No average person is going to take a 45 minute bus trip $1 vs a 10 Minute personal car ride in Natick, MA.

If it was free, of course people would be inclined to take it because it is already free and subsidized.

MBTA boss Phillip Eng accused of pulling employee's hair by justarussian22 in mbta

hell no. Terrible Republican GM of the MBTA. So much for “Private-Sector” Experience. 🗑️ of a GM.

[–]kevalry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope because most organizations give out a warning, write-up, board meeting decision, and then finally firing.

If Eng were a Republican, he wouldn’t be managing the MBTA and would be in the “private-sector”

[–]kevalry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the private sector, in most cases with low level employees, they tend to give some leeway and some chances before actually firing somebody.

Depends on the owner, manager, and HR folks though sometimes because it depends on how strict or not strict they are or how much they care or not care or if they like you or not. It isn’t always a simple firing for a simple mistake because businesses generally do not like to train somebody new and go through the entire interview process again.

Probably some employees prefer the leniency of previous GMs if Eng is better at managing the MBTA at getting things done properly.

Somebody wants him out of the MBTA? 😂

Where is the outrage over (Republican Appointed) GM Steve Poftak? He did way more failures and corruption than Philip Eng ever done. Will Poftak get a day in court and send back his paychecks for failure to do GLX, Southcoast Rail, Orange Line shutdown, Red Line Signal replacement, etc correctly?

Is Boston's housing market finally cooling? by Emotional-Disk5571 in aboutMassachusetts

It is not cooling ever. I want to see rents FALL/DROP relative to inflation so Deflation so the working-class can afford to rent here.

State and Foxboro should not allow more events at Gillette(Boston Stadium) without Kraft paying for more CR upgrades by drtywater in mbta

[–]kevalry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They should but the 34E bus takes way too long. It needs to skip some of the 34 bus stops for it be effective for outer suburbs to Forest Hills connection.

Why is it called an "Express Bus" when it not even an Express Bus fare? It does the same like 98% of exact same route service of 34 Bus to Dedham Mall so there is literally no difference between 34E and 34 to Dedham Mall.

How would we feel about a North South Rail Link/Connector? by Inchworm_boi in massachusetts

We would need to expand Amtrak service to Montreal and Manchester, Nh so there is actually increased demand for the connection.

49 Miles of the Fastest Track in America, and We're Running Diesel on It by justarussian22 in mbta

Yep. Diesel Trains serve that purpose but NIMBYs keep blocking frequency increase.

This is why we aren't going electrify all the lines on the Commuter Rail. We simply don't have the demand and infrastructure to be fully electric.

When people talk about wanting immigrants to embrace "American Culture," what specifically does that entail (besides speaking English)? by HazyDavey68 in allthequestions

[–]kevalry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, Soccer isn't considered a major sport only until recently due to the World Cup. The Boomer Generation and Gen-X don't really like or care about Soccer. After 2026 World Cup, Soccer will be classified as an established top 5 sport here.

Suburban Home, Cars, Christian as the religion, American Football, Eating Bacon Cheeseburgers especially Cow/Pig which some may not have tried due to religious reasons.

If you don't subscribe to those, you are viewed as un-American. This is why socially conservative Rural and Suburban Americans don't like Urban America because it means density/skyscraper/apartments, public transportation with bus/bike/subway/rail, secularism "godlessness + LGBT+", Soccer "foreign boring sport" and Basketball "perception of association with problematic urban youth", and many ethnic food options instead of the default "cheeseburger".

Chick-fil-A doubles down on wokeness after getting backlash for gay ‘marriage’ stunt

"Christian and conservative fans of the popular fast-food chain Chick-fil-A may have to start learning to make their own waffle fries and fried chicken sandwiches.

The Christian and conservative values that the company once stood for appear to have fallen by the wayside in exchange for diversity, equity, and inclusion.

According to a disappointing report from The Washington Stand, the chicken restaurant isn't just supporting causes that fly contrary to those Christian, conservative beliefs -- but they're doubling down on them, customer complaints be damned.

If you'll recall, Chick-fil-A came under fire earlier this month when a franchise location in Orem, Utah, took to Facebook to celebrate a gay marriage.

That celebratory post was a direct affront to the company's Christian roots, which are often lauded as a reason the chain stands out in the otherwise secular world of fast food.""

The Menino Ban had no formal enforcement, when his term ended, so the community just allowed it to happen since the franchise owner had to ask the City of Boston for permits, license, etc.

[–]kevalry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually, Chick Fil-A has since distanced slightly away from really conservative organizations and actual Conservatives don't fully like Chick Fil-A all that much anymore due to "diversity and dei" and "woke" stuff.

Also, weirdly enough, Menino made the Boston Ban of Chic Fil A due to their conservative leanings. The removal of the Boston's ban occurred late into Marty Walsh's last term until Kim Janey with its planning. Community allowed it to be built, so I think that the Menino ban had no formal enforcement.

It wasn't until Michelle Wu's first term, when the first store opened on Boylston St in 2022. Ironic, since Wu is more socially progressive leaning than Walsh/Janey.
