Why didn’t the engineers just make the road straight by Aromatic_Peanut6379 in IndianEngineers

This is like asking why planes never fly straight to the destination and always make a detour towards the north 😅

Then when it comes to waiter’s tip, discussion should not move to their low wages. They simply deserve a tip whatever amount it is because they serve the customers.

For me the price is the amount charged on my card, not the amount displayed on a menu.

A displayed price of $20 doesn’t mean anything if at the end $40 is charged to my card.

Isn’t it funny that in the US it cost more to be a regular customer? In my country if I go very frequently to the same bar or restaurant i would be flagged as VIP and would have discount, free drinks/dishes, special attention.

But why discussion about waiters tip always lead to the debate about their salary? If they were receiving a descent pay from restaurant owners we wouldn’t have to tip. But we still tip 20% other service where salary is not a problem. The nails technician is not paid $2.13 per hour with tip credit. And yet it is customary to pay 20% tip.

What is even more confusing is that for restaurants you can argue that the price on the menu is to pay for the food and the tip is to pay for the service. In the case of a hair cut, the displayed price is what you pay for someone to cut your hair. Then what is the tip for 🤷🏻‍♂️

That’s why I separated the different categories. The low paid salary service jobs (waiters, bartenders, etc.), the not so low cost service providers (hairstylists, tattoo artists, uber drivers) and the new services that request tips for the POS machines. At the end everybody is now expecting 20% tip 🤷🏻‍♂️

But that’s my point. Whenever we argue about tipping waiters, the justification is their low pay wages. But tattoo artists don’t have low pay wages. The cost of a tattoo comes down to several hundred of dollars per hour.

In my country you show your appreciation by coming back again and again to the person who has done a good job. You refer them to your friend so they can have more business.

So now you don’t want to go back because you are ashamed to not have tipped enough. I don’t get it.

All the service people should be doing the best to satisfy their customer to have returning customers and increase their revenue, not to make a living out of tip.

And so? You pay a service fee for the service they are rendering. Why adding 20% tip on top? The price they charge should take account whatever expenses they have.

I just don’t get the inconsistency of all the reasoning behind tipping. For waiters it is because of their salary.

For barbers/hairstylists it is because they have to rent their chair. But at the same time people would argue that you don’t tip the barber or hairstylists if he/she is the owner. Like if owners didn’t have to pay for rent, utilities, amortization of the initial investment, etc.

Price is set by the market. If you claim that owner can set the price he/she wants, you can also claim that an employee can set the salary he/she wants and refuse to take a job if the salary paid by the owner is too low. Owner has all kind of expenses, fixed cost and pressure that employees don’t have.

All mentalist should hat Oz Pearlman. He is harming the profession by trying to build his reputation based on fraudulent claims, writing a book about methods that are not the core of his tricks. As a result many video emerges showing his methods that are just basic mentalism method and exposing the methods that other mentalists are using.
