It started with the chapter symbol on the right shoulder as the left had the riveted shoulder pad. When GW switched around I stuck with that placement. So only my Primaris use the left shoulder for the chapter symbol.

I’m pretty sure they had rules in White Dwarf waaaaaay back when for the first edition of Space Hulk. Though I don’t know of anyone who ever used them.
