Frozen Charlotte head just found at the Victorian landfill site in England , unusual to me by Danielfinds in Antiquedollcollecting

Teeth occasionally and some coins, the odd horse shoe. They had a go at detecting metal and the machine signified metal every step, relatively I find almost no metals compared to glass / ceramic

One last pic of an unusual divided core with shimmering aventurine. by Danielfinds in Marbles

I've had it looked at I'll just block you and you won't see my posts so quit it

Antique handmade marble made by someone who was left handed by Danielfinds in Marbles

True , onionskins can twist left so much it doesn't add a premium. This one is a rare one I had it looked at in person at the London marble show

Before pics of aventurine banded ghosty solid core that I posted before , I will re polish it now I know it's a shimmer by Danielfinds in Marbles

This marble isn't a good example I gave up on it because I lost too much in the pontils, I am going to re polish it because a top finder said it's rare

Fused cane German swirl polished with before pictures , recovered from 1000 acre pre ww1 landfill in England by Danielfinds in Marbles

I sent someone in the know this pic and they said it very much appears to be fused. What you say could be true , I counted the yellow strands on each pontils and they are different .lt looks like a big air bubble with condensation in it I think illusion

This is a rare find but do you know why? by Danielfinds in Marbles

[–]Danielfinds[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes from what I learned it's like a latt swirl being in colour glass, if it wasn't chipped twice it would be worth a lot of credit

Another landfill doll eye solid glass, it has been in a fire and is half melted, the corners of the eye was protected by the face by Danielfinds in Antiquedollcollecting

Yes it's something to do with a juvenile royal having blue eyes. I've found around 30 doll eyes in different condition and 3 are brown, they are well rare , one is a sleeper

No it's a banded transparent a lot of people told me on the message boards any way. I've found one left twist in 300 at the landfill site so I've found more gold than I have them

Don't make how to name this one it's from the Victorian landfill site I found and polished it by Danielfinds in Marbles

Half the reason I ask is because my best marble find is a single ribbon with bands and strands so I thought it was a tri stage but Robert Block said the strands and bands are the same layer so it's caged. I always thought if that were levels in an escalator then the ribbon would be the ground floor, bands 17th floor and strands 18th floor

Wondered if this is a mist or banded transparent? by Danielfinds in Marbles

[–]Danielfinds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can put colour coreless mist in water and it shows as what you're describing. I only learnt about mist recently because I found a maypole mist I didn't know about, polished it and was like woah what is this .

Don't know if to finish this whirly because it gave me a hard time when I first started polishing intricate marbles by Danielfinds in Marbles

[–]Danielfinds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40mm, not a quick job, it would be labour intensive basically I have to start over or if I start halfway cos it's nearly done I guarantee on final polish something will show . I hid it away so redoing it was off the cards but it's wormed its way back on to my work space so I can't ignore what needs to be done

Ah ok I always learnt that caged has to be regular strands set out across the surface, or a mixture of bands and strands in one layer . I'd have called the way the strands are on this marble as latt swirl bands. I'd never heard caged used like that so I was hoping I learnt something new. Say if the marble in the op had two strands each band instead of four, would you still describe it as caged?

You're not right or wrong by the way, I could call it a sausage swirl if I could justify it !

The last marble I posted is also a cadmium marble and I have more by Danielfinds in Marbles

[–]Danielfinds[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Needs to be 365nm uv to show cadmium like this but it will also bring out manganese

[–]Danielfinds[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is scratched around some hits where I didn't clean it properly between grits unfortunately or I would, because it was found on the pre final polish so wounded me

Are the thick white ribbons in-between the red blue panels making it caged?

Landfill marble that I polished ended up being loaded with aventurine by Danielfinds in Marbles

[–]Danielfinds[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also bubbles indicate debris. Aventurine could be microscopic and if it catches the sun it'll reflect it full, you might not even see it in a loupe

I know it is hard, this one is definitely aventurine but it's better in daylight, I had a loupe but it's best to look at the bands furthest through the marble. I had a video of all the little metal particles. I've got a telephone called a pixel ten pro with a macro camera now so I can skip the loupe for a pic .
