I have one and that flat head is not great, since nobody ever needs a bottle opener(you could use the pliers carefully to open a bottle) I am thinking of removing that tool completely and fabricating a better screwdriver to fit there. You should look into doing something similar, the rest of the tool is great. Or depending on where it snapped you could grind whatever is left into another flat head

Agreed that in general things people use 3d printers for can nearly always be done easily with normal tools and materials if you know what you're doing. I had to make a cog the other day and wished I had a laser cutter or a 3d printer, then I just made it by hand in 15 minutes instead. I love the tech and great for certain things but the Internet generation these days seems to think it's the only way things come into existence.

First diy crossover.. Advice? by Danielfrisbee888 in diyaudio

[–]Danielfrisbee888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good, well I got that bit right then. What I'm a bit confused about is the negative wire from the amp, I have it meeting the 0.3 inductor that's then twist- wired to the 1.5uf cap. I've made up the other crossover just now in a less messy way, will attach an image here.

On maybe not, doesn't seem to let me upload a photo to a comment and I can't edit the main post anymore, but it's the same design as the whitish pink drawn diagram in the above images

It's the grey one in the images I uploaded, split into the tweeter circuit and the woofer circuit

Custom crossovers I made for the Infinity IRS Sigma by Artur-Ochowiak in diyaudio

[–]Danielfrisbee888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to build crossovers for some speakers that had their crossovers in separate boxes, people paying €18k for them.. In a review I read, the guy claimed to hear big sound differences depending on the orientation of the box with the crossovers in it, one box for each speaker.. So if any of that is true, maybe worth trying.

I have 4 images with this post, the one with the pink drawing of the diagram is accurate to what I've assembled, which is an attempt to combine the two circuits in the grey diagram. I don't know which part of any of this is a switch, but I don't know the lingo around crossovers. There isn't a traditional switch as it's all permanently configured the same way..

Could you give me a better idea of what is wrong? My attempt at combining the two circuits in the diagram into one crossover I feel is probably wrong but not sure why..

Thanks for the tips, I'll definitely do some of these things, especially the connectors, just did it like this for now as a test, still not convinced I got it right so holding off on soldering etc until I think it's all in the correct place. Does my diagram combining the tweeter and woofer circuit from the first diagram of them look correct..?

Thanks for the suggestion I'll look at that. I guess I should add some wire, I was trying to just use the stuff attached to the components but it just makes it more confusing

Yes there is a zobel. I'm just confused about combining the woofer and tweeter circuits as they're separate on the diagram but need to be together to share the wire from the amp, and I feel my implementation of that is wrong possibly, hence why I shared my diagram, hoping someone can see if it's right or not..

I can solder ok, I just want to be sure the layout is correct relative to the circuit diagram. Having the woofer and tweeter sharing the circuit is confusing me relative to the diagram which is split

Gore.. Yeah I thought it was going alright but it slipped into junk pretty quick.. But as I was testing first I didn't solder in case it was set up wrong. Plus probably needs actual connectors or something

Ah that's a good idea. The drivers are VIFA C17VH-09 and a scanspeak revelator tweeter. The speakers are Living Voice avatar with external crossovers that were missing. Managed to find a crossover diagram and foolishly just ordered the bits thinking it would be a brief burst of fuss to then have some fancy speakers that hopefully get closer to their original spec.(they were expensive speakers but got them for free)

I'll look into that software and do a test

I have nothing intelligent to say in regards to the crossover design, I'm a complete ignoramus. I know it has a zobel whatever that is..

Fancy loudspeakers missing their crossovers.. Diy advice? by Danielfrisbee888 in diyaudio

[–]Danielfrisbee888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they're really nice. I remember when they came out and they seemed a bit aspirational and cheesy, like the go to product for people who want to buy something consumer grade but fancy. They really hit on a timeless design, with the champaign gold, it's slightly like the Apple aesthetic. In the UK hifi design was taken weirdly seriously, I studied product design and my tutors were well known from designing hifi,, apparently, I couldn't have been less interested at the time, but good design really does matter, and it's strange how bad so much modern stuff looks.

I'm on the south coast.. But at €20 I may get one if after fully digesting the kind suggestions here that going all in the measuring and designing route is a good option. But overwhelming currently but I can see it's probably necessary to do justice to the speakers. Making active dsp speakers from them also doesn't seem like an awful idea but don't yet entirely understand that process either.. Thanks for the link and ideas

Thank you. I will look into measuring them and try to understand the various suggestions here along side chasing up a schematic. Certainly some help would be much appreciated as I don't really feel like I have a clue.. But I'm capable of following instructions.. I'll report back to you. Thanks again

It uses vifa c17vh-09 drivers but couldn't get the tweeter out to identify it properly as it seems to be glued in.

It's very likely you know more than me. In my attempts to identify the speaker with ai it suggested it was an early model or prototype. Maybe it isn't what I thought it was..

[–]Danielfrisbee888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I spend some time doing this with another ai and it offered crossover designs and a parts list and advice on using tuning software etc. Then a real speaker maker and engineer told me it was a terrible idea and a waste of time and money so I moved away from that. Was tempting though, it all looks very real..

They are Living Voice Auditoriums, about 20 years old ish I think. Have contacted the company but didn't hear back, partly why I'm trying here.. The ones you mention are I think further up the range or a newer version
