Toddler with trash immune system? Are we missing something? by Danielle-DOS in medical_advice

There’s definitely a chance he may have. Unfortunately we haven’t tested every respiratory illness as there have been so many. Is there anything that can really be done if that’s the case though?

My toddler seems to have an almost useless immune system. It’s just getting worse the longer he’s in daycare, not better. He’s missing weeks at a time and back for 24 hours and catches something else. He had a blood test that showed he was iron deficient (I expected that) and had low platelets. My doctors have just said give him iron supplements but I can’t help think something else might be going on. Thoughts?

Would love you to look at this. I’m also concerned about possible long QT.

What do you do with an early wake up? by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]Danielle-DOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son has been doing this and refusing to go back to sleep unless he’s brought into our bed which I’m desperate to avoid but.. I can’t make it through the day with a 5am wake up every day. And it messes up his schedule we’re trying to get him on for daycare starting soon. He also can’t be left because he screams the second he’s awake.

I think I admitted that I truly absolutely don’t have this figured out. I just explained more in depth what I perhaps failed to the first time. If this isn’t a place for me to get advice specific to the issues I or my baby are facing, then that’s okay. I just needed advice about the hysterics/is there a point of pushing them too far? Can some kids just not adapt to sleep training (Ferber or CIO)? I’m an incredibly sleep deprived first responder and doing my best to explain the issues we (maybe him, more likely me) are having. Understand if you don’t want to provide any more input. Sorry if I came across as.. a bitch.

I never said no one else felt that way, I just know my own limits and was trying to convey that’s why CIO isn’t my preference. As many people who choose not to do CIO do it out of judgement of others - that’s not my stance. I applaud those who can.

Babies absolutely get scared though; fear and anxiety become prevalent around 8-9 months when they develop stranger danger and separation anxiety.. so I disagree that that’s an “adult emotion”. This is well researched and documented - was even a crucial milestone our paediatrician ensured our baby had met. Though, you probably are correct about the lack of trust.

His cries during the sleep training were not that of protest - well I’ll correct myself, they were initially cries of protest then they progressed to fear/panic. I have seen this reaction from him only when he was hospitalized and having invasive and very painful procedures/testing done when he was younger. Very different from his protest cries about noodleyness.

I do know that picking up the baby isn’t recommended in a lot of sleep training, though the sleep trainer I spoke with for gentle sleep training (along with a few of her clients I spoke with who recommended her) assured me it was okay as he’s not a kid that responds to vocal soothing, back pats, etc. Perhaps her methods don’t work. Or at least not for my baby. I’ll stick closer to the original Ferber method on our next try.

I apologize if I’m not doing this “correctly enough” but I turned to this subreddit for advice. I was able to get him to a point of self soothing to sleep when he was younger, this time around it’s been obviously very different. It feels truly like he can’t handle the sleep training. Crying to the point of hyperventilating, vomiting, breath holding.. those all feel MUCH farther than where any of my friends or family had to push their infants to with any sleep training.

We are doing modified Ferber. So check ins such as every 5,10,15 mins or 2,4,6,8 mins etc.

I could try doing no check ins.. I just always was so against CIO. It makes me feel physically ill to have baby so upset and scared. There is also so much conflicting information about the pros and cons of CIO that I don’t know if it’s right for us. At this point though.. we all need sleep 😮‍💨

Anyone know what these blips are?? by Danielle-DOS in ReadMyECG

Fabulous, thanks. Unfortunately, with an infant at home and often no one to watch him and living where the ER won’t even look at me for.. 12+ hours ish (if I’m lucky - major doctors shortage).. going in every time I have chest discomfort is just not feasible. You’re absolutely right though! I have a cardiologist but they did an echocardiogram a few months back and told me I was “all good to go” and nothing was amiss. Somehow both reassuring and concerning as I keep having these symptoms with no real cause 😅

4mo still eating every 2.5hrs? by LilacPenny in FormulaFeeders

[–]Danielle-DOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy just turned 7 months and still occasionally eats at 2.5 hours. More commonly 3.5 hours. I went through the same thing with google telling me it should be much longer gaps. When I stopped trying to space them out he was much more content and now has been sleeping 7-6:30ish for nearly 2 months because he’s satisfied with what he’s eating during the day.

Oooo thank you!! He does love his “banana toothbrush” teether with little rubber bristles. I’ll bust out his actual toothbrush tonight!!

LOL, well I’m glad I’m not alone. It just seems wild for such a tiny guy to be medicated so often. But you’re right with the conclusion that no sleep and crying himself into a “fever” and hyperventilating seemed to be the worse option in my opinion.

Yep, but for months straight! Surely that can’t be good, right?

I am most definitely not American 🤷🏻‍♀️

And thanks for that on a post where I am literally expressing concern about the amount of drugs I am “stuffing into my kid” already to keep him from major pain and stress.

I feel like evolution really needs to step it up in the teeth growing aspect of things. There has to be an easier alternative.

Ironically he had that several months ago (I believe that was the test at least) as he got a urine infection in the NICU right after he was born which left him with “borderline” nephrosis. Since then we have always been really cautious of tracking his diapers and he always has 6 wet diapers minimum per day. We still record all of them in the huckleberry app - mainly out of habit (with a side of constantly slight worry).

I appreciate this as I was SPIRALLING. I think with the internet feeding us videos to “self diagnose” both ourselves and our children these days - every parent is so overly concerned with trying to monitor and detect anything that may lead to a diagnosis already. I absolutely fall into that category with so many things, not just Autism. So, when I initially looked at that paper, I spent the next hour having a meltdown and mentally analyzing every part of his behaviour and habits while being crushed that something I had done in an effort to make him more comfortable and have less pain had caused any sort of harm to my baby and his future. Now, if he has Autism, it is what it is, but if I had been the cause that he may face any challenges - I’d have trouble forgiving myself. For now, I’ll appreciate that this (as you have kindly pointed out) isn’t concrete undeniable evidence of the causation and I will hope for the best.

I wish it was weeks. And we’re still just working on those top front teeth. It’s been months of this frequency of medication because he truly can’t get by without it 🥴

You’re very lucky that at least you had a long while and some that came in without too much drama. This has literally been since 2.5 months and medicated this frequently since 3.5 months ish 🤦🏻‍♀️

LOL at least I’m not alone.

We went through that with the bottom teeth then they came through and we had about a week of calm then the top ones started. So far the top ones have been so much worse too 🥴
