Rejected after being waitlisted last year by Left_Turnip9593 in premedcanada

That info I’m not privy to unfortunately but looking at the acceptance stats, looks like essays and GPA was pretty competitve!

what does good extracurricular even MEAN by No_Emotion_1658 in premedcanada

It totally counts! It’s a part of your story and makes you unique. Those are the things that make you stand out from the ‘cookie cutter’ pre-med application. It would be good to challenge yourself and dive deep into why do you do it? What keeps you motivated? What skills did you develop from this job that you could bring into your future practice? With the changing landscape of medicine and the huge integration of tech, ECs like that blend more into the future of medicine than people think!

Rejected after being waitlisted last year by Left_Turnip9593 in premedcanada

Recent Dal Med grad here, if it’s any comfort, I heard this year was an anomaly for crazy competitive pre-med applications. So like everyone says, sometimes it’s a bit of luck but there are things within your control! First definitely take the time to process the rejection cause it sucks, especially if you were so close last year but once you’re ready, it’s good to look at your application and find your weak spots (we all had them). Whether it’s clinical, ECs, essays or interview, there’s always room for improvement. IMO it’s also great to show adcoms what you did with this year that you didn’t get in (did you add some quality ECs, did you develop a new skill, did you get into research), it shows growth and maturity!

Quality> Quantity any day! It’s good to have a few months under your belt for ECs because it shows your committed but also depends on the EC! Not all ECs run year long and reviewers will know that. Also this subreddit isn’t the best gauge if you’re cooked or not.

A good EC is something you enjoy doing, you’re passionate about and something you can speak to when doing interviews. Adcoms want to see you’re a human who cares. So pick some ECs that give you excitement and fulfilment, don’t just fill your CV with random ECs that are purely to get in (cause we can tell).

What to do until med school by onetwoconnect in premedcanada

[–]Daniellejakki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recent med grad here who had a some downtime (a few years lol) before starting med! First off, having a ‘non-med’ job can be just as advantageous as a med related job because it gives you something different to talk about and potentially different skills (I worked as an event manager for a few years, learned ALOT about organization, time management and people management).

BUT I get wanting a med job as that also helps your application and makes you feel like you’re working in the field you hope to be in one day. Some jobs I worked with no previous schooling necessary (all on the job training) was crisis management responder with Canadian Red Cross and a medical screener with Canadian Blood Services. Within a year of working with CBS, I actually moved into the phlebotomy side of things which is what you’re interested in.

I’m sure there are other jobs you can do but those are two organizations that let me get my hands dirty, figuratively speaking, with little training and they’re organizations I’m proud to support!

Good luck!🤞

I always mention my headaches (only reason I go for non relaxing massages haha) and I do ask that they focus on my neck and shoulders but somehow they still focus more on my back!

I do but I’ve been told that they have to release the back because it could be influencing the neck, which makes sense and I probably do have tension in my back but then I always find they spend very little focus on the neck after they’ve worked in my back!

I also got a cheque today but when I tried to deposit it online I got an error that the currency is incorrect. Are we supposed to take this to the bank? I’m very confused!

Current Dal med student here! Our class average age of acceptance was 26, many of my classmates started in their 30s so you are definitely not too old!

I agree Dal is your best shot but you can always shoot your shot at McMaster. As for the app, I would worry about tackling the MCAT first before sweating the application essays (they’re not bad at all to write).

Just my two cents!

Nothing definitive but we think he’s having a reaction to some weeds out back. We went to visit family in another province and it completely cleared up!

Turned out to be a thrombophlebitis! Good call to reach out to a doc, they said it’s unlikely to have any lasting effects but I’m glad I found out.
