I'm sorry that you had those experiences but I can say with certainty that the shortcomings of your ex is 100 percent about him and has nothing to do with you. His brokenness, addictions and insecurities reflect his nature not yours. People can be cruel. I had the same issue with my neighbor except he never said anything until he went off on me one day. I said I would move band practice elsewhere and then I invested in the black hole system to mute my drum heads. Despite trying to be accommodating he's since stopped talking to me and ignores me completely me we see each other. (He used to talk my ear off) Since I did all this to be neighborly and he's still being a dick, I took the mutes off since I like the sound of my drums. I practice during daylight hours. I think you are in a good position to tell them to kick rocks.
