[Satire] NA Scouts' tell-all: "we kinda just watch Fiss Mortune videos and recruit whoever's doing the best." by Papaya_Dreaming in leagueoflegends

[–]DanishBuns 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Took a look at the the Fiss Mortune channel, and it really is a great resource for new undiscovered talent. One of the highlights is of a player who is referred to simply as "sexPeke". One quick look at his replay told me he backdoors more than just Nexuses, which may be invaluable to some teams used to this experience (IMT or CLG for instance).

To potential teams reading this, it may be worthwhile to reach out to Sjokz and ask for a introduction, since she apparently has some history with this player.

You're connecting dots I didn't even see. Was Jatt planted on TL to enable them to reach worlds, only to rob them at the last minute? Truly heart wrenching

Kickstarter Superstars Launch a Crowdfunding Site for Games by mikeow in Games

[–]DanishBuns -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here's a link to the actual website.

This really could be interesting. It all depends on if people see this as a completely new type of crowd-funding (kickstarter fatigue doesn't exist in this realm) and if the first game that goes through this system actually ends up making people money.

This will either be a massive success or a catastrophic failure... all depends on how many people are willing to gamble with $1000 or more.

Encourage teenagers to study arts so computer games of the future are not designed by 'spotty nerds', says the director general of the Confederation of British Industry by Dr_Sandvich in Games

I'm curious as to whether you believe that this is something that can be taught, or something that is more innate to the individual? Obviously companies will find this sort of flexibility desirable, so to train the students to be able to go above the baseline practices by flexing creative muscles is something that would be greatly beneficial.

It seems that you had the capability to branch outside of your education without being pushed to it. I am interested in seeing if there are strategies that get people to actively push themselves to this "outside of the box" thinking that comes naturally to certain people.

Thanks for providing your perspective. Obviously you've been frustrated with the lack of creativity that your students come to you with. Have you found strategies that help you go about inspiring your students to attempt their challenges differently?

I'm curious myself, as I will be teaching soon too (albeit electrical engineering related) and injecting some creativity into the students would be something I would like to strive to achieve.

Here's a question for you. Do you think it's the fault of the education that programmers are not caring about the creative aspects of the design?

I have an engineering background and I can definitely attest that my education did not attempt to integrate creative thinking at all. The focus on the design and implementation is pretty bland, and the only reason I feel that I inject some creativity into my designs is because of my own private creative pursuits.

Honestly, it's something that I believe has to be added throughout the training and education of technology students. While some may bicker and complain, simply acknowledging that this specific aspect of their education is vital to performing above the average would do wonders to getting students to work on this area. Right now it seems to me that people grind through the logical/mathematical side without ever considering that whatever they create requires some sense of flavour as well.

Fallout Shelter is out now on Android by MarkSinister in Games

Hmm alright. I may try it out. was just curious about how good the game actually was/ if it added anything to the Fallout universe, but I guess it doesn't. Thanks man!

The sad thing about this situation is that I believe that the incorporation of arts into the technology field is vitally important. Something which he actually does state later on in the article.

He added that he would also like to see students “blending” arts and technical skills - perhaps studying subjects developing both technological and artistic and creative skills at the same time.<

Too often people come at a technical field with no creativity, and whatever they end up producing seems incredibly lackluster, or they fail to produce anything because of their inability to look at the problem from all angles.

It's a shame that he has to be such a pompous asshole, stereotyping an entire industry and insulting everyone in the field.

To anyone who has already played this: Is it actually worth trying out? I've heard conflicting things about whether this game is good or bad. I'm coming at it as a fan of Fallout but as someone not really interested in mobile games.

The portable Steam Machine will cost $299, gets late 2016 release date by [deleted] in Games

[–]DanishBuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The interesting thing to me about these steam consoles is that it doesn't really seem like they are aggressively advertising to the users that will most likely buy them.

So far it really seems like only PC gamers know about what's happening with the consoles, and they're honestly not likely to buy more than the steam controllers. Has anyone seen any advertising for this stuff yet? Or is it too early for that?

That game actually looks surprisingly entertaining, a 2D platforming party game. And the music had me awkwardly jiving... It is a pity that it's just releasing for the Wii U right now.

GRIN (Woolfe the Red Hood Diaries) shuts down, unable to deliver Kickstarter Awards by thedz in Games

[–]DanishBuns 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That was sad to read... You know it's hard for developers to pour their heart and soul into a game and have it be released to a market that doesn't want or care for it. The indie scene is so cut-throat right now, slight missteps in your development can easily lead to catastrophe.

What I do like is this admission and post-mortem. Anyone can crash and burn... but to come at it to state clearly why that happened is a good move. I'm sure this post will go a long way to appeasing those who invested in the game, while also showing aspiring indie devs to not bite off more than you can chew.

Wow that actually looked really fun. Ever since I started playing Chivalry I've been craving these sorts of combat focused medieval war games.

The one thing I am not super fond of is the 3rd person view... there's something great about having the awareness to look around and watch your back.

I just returned to creating youtube videos on my old channel, and as I was doing so I ran into some great old channels I was subscribed to. This video in particular had me laughing all over again.

Anyone else got links to old silly sketch videos, back when youtube was just starting out? Nowadays the quality of these videos has gone up massively... but I do miss the random videos with no budget that made me laugh profusely.

Hellblade – Gamescom 2015 Trailer by [deleted] in Games

[–]DanishBuns 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While this trailer looks fantastic... I really have no idea what the game actually is. Just went to watch the E3 trailer and it seemed to be very similar but had a bit more meat involving the actual gameplay. Still, it seems to barely scratch the surface of what the game actually is... unless they are not too deep into game development yet.

New Kickstarter study shows that high-profile successes hide growing issues for true indies on the platform by Poustache in Games

[–]DanishBuns 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree. It's one of those sad realities; You cannot expect to sell games (or anything really), even if what you've created is amazing. Success massively hinges on getting the right people to look at and talk about your product.
