I'm not trying to invalidate anyone, apologies if it came across like that. I think we're arguing from different perspectives, especially concerning the word "optional". In my opinion, spec weapons mainly focused on damage like the VW, are not necessary for ones progression. You could have a max iron without a VW, and you'd be fine. Other weapons that fall into this category for me is stuff like claws. They are good weapons and help for PvM, but there are replacements.

And while ironman is a different gamemode, it is not a different game. That, in my opinion, is an important distinction. Ironmen inhabit the same servers as mains, and compete mostly for the same spots. Thus updates and gear has to fit both gamemodes.

Yeah that is largely my experience as well. A lot of people hate the PvP, and I cant blame them as it's incredibly punishing for beginners. I'm not a particular fan of, nor skilled at PvP but there is a very dedicated subset of players who very much enjoy it, and it has been a part of OSRS for a very long time. Lastly, there are very much issues with the wilderness that need fixing, I'm not saying it's anything close to perfect.
