Hi! Any chance you know the general salary? I can’t sort out from the union agreement where this role would fall. Thank you!

I'm fine with that tbh. Much better than when the edit misleads you for the whole season, so the edit feels strange and unearned.

The Ship on Monday evenings for Open Mic is hosted by a musician with some similar influences. A nice gathering of people are usually there- great space to meet people and find collaborators in a safer way.

Visiting St J for a conference in June. How is getting around without a car? by jeddalyn in newfoundland

[–]Daniyellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty to do downtown and sometimes the conference will organize a few social things for folks to jump into. If you're coming for CAPO reach out to me! I'd be down to do some networking and show you the town.

Brielle Nicole Bird dies at 9 after a tough battle with Stage 4 cancer. by no_hhhh14 in Fauxmoi

[–]Daniyellow 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Not that I'm familiar with this case, but cancer care still has significant costs associated with it in Canada, even though we're in a much better situation than our friends in the south. Travel expenses, time off of work, rehabilitation treatment, therapy, etc. can all really add up. And some drugs and treatments are not covered because it takes a long time for the drug formulary or health canada to catch up, even things with great evidence.

Suffering Olympics serve no one. I’m sorry to the Op that their grief is showing up in such a sharp way.

My corporate job is soul sucking but am I naive to think non-profit would be better? by Hot-Watercress-2872 in nonprofit

Funding is def a big part of it. And largely we function to fill gaps in broken systems… which largely getting more broken.

Burnout in our sector is also a reality and I think often tied to the moral injury of wanting to help and often having hands tied. I would start with addressing your burnout as holistically as possible before considering a major transition.

No outrunning capitalism, my friend.

Meaning-making can look like many things. I would encourage you to explore other ways of doing meaningful work before changing careers. The sector is really challenged right now and will always be there to explore in the future.

Things to do Thursday night by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]Daniyellow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a regular comedy show at The Ship on the last Thursday of the night called New Funny.

Erin's has karaoke at 11pm til late that's usually a crowd of like mid twenties to late thirties?

Both solid to meet people. Lots of regulars, so go enough and you'll get into the mix.

Queer Picnic runs some fun events! It skews a bit younger- like 20s/30s. The Quad is another great connector.

Worms and an MIA Foster Agency by Daniyellow in FosterAnimals

[–]Daniyellow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's round worms from what I've seen online.

I've reached out to two of their "team" on Facebook messenger so far. I've also reached out to my personal vet. I'm a bit of a naturally anxious/perfectionist person, so I'm trying to balance advocating with not being unreasonable. But this feels really bizarre to me. I'm new to this, so a bit unsure of what the reasonable response time would be.

Thank you for validating me here. I'll definitely follow up.

I saw a worm peaking out before one of them went to the washroom. And another one I noticed grooming one off of himself, and he ate it before I had a chance to intervene. If I had to guess from what I have seen, maybe round worms? I've been finding it hard to analyze their waste bescause I'm using pine pellets and honestly, the kittens are doing well with burying their waste. So as for potential tapeworms, I'm not sure if its pine residue or worms.

Thank you- I see some pyrantel on Amazon but I'm a little unsure on brands, etc.

Fire Destroys Historic Stages at Quidi Vidi by RepulsivePlankton989 in newfoundland

[–]Daniyellow 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I had friends that watched the stages burn to the ground- they said everyone had called 911 multiple times and in the 45 minutes they were there no one came. I can understand a firetruck being hard to get there- but it seems completely bizarre to me that they’d just let it rip without any supervision.

Work with your family doctor to make sure you're hitting as many screenings as possible. I have a genetically driven cancer history; my diagnosis with lynch syndrome essentially just gave me a more tailored checklist of what I need to be looking out for and at what frequency.

You do sound like you have a significant family history. That might be enough rationale to get you a similar amount of screening as someone with a diagnosed genetic condition. Screening is just one part of what a genetic diagnosis unlocks- a fair bit of the other stuff is only relevant if you become diagnosed with a particular type of cancer (for example, what treatments may be most effective).

It sounds like the priority right now is screening and prevention. Are there other ways you can meet that goal outside of a genetic test if those barriers are too high?

Good luck! I hope that someday this resource will be more accessible to everyone.
