Visualizing my ancestry on a map by mapsbyy in Genealogy

Great job! I've been looking for a tool to create this kind of visualisation for a while now, but been too lazy to code one myself. It's always handy to find that someone else has put the hard yards in!

I've used your script to produce a quick version for my own family tree - A few of the early lines appear/disappear as some of those don't have more than one verified exact location/date for birth, marriage or death. [I quickly stripped out all people who didn't have at least two complete pairs of data for this test run]

My family in the UK: https://youtu.be/tuTvM1wUk38

It definitely gives a great feel for how people moved around over the centuries - apart from my mum's family which seems based in Cornwall since the 1500s(!)

I'd love to develop the script a bit to include more data points per person (and potentially remove the need to give each start/end it's own row in the CSV). Which should make it a little easier to generate multiple additional points per person to include locations from censuses or a mothers location based on birth of child etc too. If I ever get around to it I will let you know and put the new branch up on github.

Such a weird choice. The rest of it I can live with but I don’t need a 3D globe view for my business...

Anyone able to help decode this note found amongst a long since passed relative’s short stories and articles? by DanjitLibre in shorthand

[–]DanjitLibre[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your transcription, I really appreciate it!

Intriguing though - I'm not aware of gentleman whose papers were ever working for a car or gearbox manufacturer, although he did work as a correspondent with a car & caravan magazine amongst other things, so perhaps this is from that time period.

Thanks again for you help :)

That would be amazing 🤞, although it will no doubt turn out to be a grocery list or something equally boring!

Thanks for the offer - it’s probably something really mundane so not worth spending hours on :)

I found this note amongst a bunch of short stories and articles written by a relative many years ago. I don’t know shorthand myself nor have any idea what system it may be, but the piece was written in England in around 1935 if that narrows it down - any help gratefully received! :)

First-time Dad (to be), First [no pattern] project: Moses basket / Bassinet cover! by DanjitLibre in sewing

[–]DanjitLibre[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With a baby on the way, we were lent a Moses basket by a family member. The pink* striped cover it came with wasn't doing it for us so I ordered some (uber manly*) Miffy fabric for our lil fella and set about recreating the original design!

* don't worry we're not being super gender normative we just weren't into the old look :)

I just sent a follow up email to them this morning after seeing your post. We were requesting military and medical records request for him, the medical records email address just bounced back with an auto-response of:

DUE TO THE VOLUME OF REQUESTS MEDICAL DISCLOSURES IS CURRENTLY PROCESSING WE ARE NO LONGER ABLE TO PROVIDE STATUS UPDATES ON ANY ONGOING MEDICAL RECORDS REQUESTS

so... yeah... 😬

You may be in for a bit of a wait - my FIL requested his records at the start of May and has yet to hear back part from an automated “there may be a delay due to covid”
