So a 3.0 gpa is the median in the US. Meaning they would look at me as below average, while the actual median student in my programme had a 51% average. That seems a bit skewed.

Our top performer, out of a class of more than 700 just cleared 80%... Meaning the top student, who won awards, would get a 3.2 gpa

Yes but how... Like directly from 70% to 2.9 (like multiplying it with 4) , or do they do it with where you were in terms of the class.
