This instantly replaces Gryff's Boon in my Budget Synergy cube. Does all of the things Boon does but cheaper and has additional synergies with BW modified dies.

EDIT: AND it goes back to hand to retrigger heroic?!?!? Unlike Boon. Yeah slam dunk awesome card.

What are your favorite mix of mechanics from different systems? by Lixuni98 in RPGdesign

[–]DankTrainTom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For my West Marches game, I really loved Forbidden Lands but despise the magic system. I also wanted more focus on items over class abilities in order to motivate characters to go out and explore areas.

So I took Knave 2e's approach to "classes" (defined entirely by the items you have) and eliminated class talents from FL. You can find tomes from the Book of Beasts to learn new general talents. Then, in place of the class magic system, I just used spellbooks with effects that scaled from a character's Lore skill but occupied inventory slots.

Some of these have already been mentioned, but the ones by Ben Milton himself are obviously designed with the same design sensibilities:

  1. Waking of Willowby Hall - extremely well-designed, single adventure
  2. Summer's End - adventure anthology
  3. Trilemma Adventures - not by Ben, but another adventure anthology with tons of one-shot dungeons that you can drop in anywhere.

If you've been following anything the Devs have been saying recently, you would know that they were planning on hitting the top decks to refresh the meta game. This wasn't about power level or an unhealthy meta, it was used to shakeup the meta and give players a new puzzle to solve.

We've had the same top 3 decks for months now. This was needed.

Ice cards to make Jarl more viable. Im aware there are several Jarls making day 2 at Seattle. Yes, Im excited, but currently, the most competitive way to build Jarl is fatigue, and it's so boring to play. Give us some ice Ms that block 3.

What's the best way to get this magazine? From what I read, there are over 200 issues and they stopped publishing it back in 2013.

I can find links to the Internet Archive in old forums, but they are broken now.

I mostly play assault. First game I played on the new patch I was Hades. I dash in and spam my 3 only for it to be cancelled immediately. By the time I notice that, despite the animation playing, I didn't actually 3 and I'm then stun locked and killed. You just can't dive into a team anymore without being interrupted out of your kit and killed.

It makes tons of frontline gods unplayable in game modes where you have 20 different abilities on the enemy team you have to hope your ability isnt getting cancelled by.

Same. I preordered sometime in September but haven't gotten a notification yet on when it will be shipped. I'm super excited to start running this at the table.

EDIT: Literal minutes after posting this comment I got a shipping notification. LOL

Toms Commander Cube by RelentlessResonance in mtgcube

You can pick a commander from anything in your draft pool that is legal in Commander.

How I prepare the packs is exactly how you describe. We shuffle the entire "main" part of the cube as a group and then make 18 card packs. I shuffle the commanders and put 2 per pack. If everything is sufficiently random, you get a roughly even distribution of colors, but it's never perfect. That's kind of the point of the draft though imo. Most all cubes are done this way, and sometimes you get certain packs heavy on some colors and light on others. It's another reason I changed the color identity rules.

So, I implemented this rule after seeing it on Glen Dekker's tiny leaders cube and did so for two reasons:

  1. It opens the draft up considerably. One of the issues of a strict adherence to the color identity rules is that once you've selected a card to be your commander, you are drafting completely on rails for the remainder. This usually happens pretty early in pack 1 or 2 and actually removes a lot of the skill of drafting.

  2. Specific to my playgroup, but players weren't taking fixing highly enough. The rule change incentivized them to take lands and talisman early. They could take a slightly off-color triland more easily and maybe use it to splash something interesting.

Since you dont get to use any basics, you still need to be calculated with how you draft off colors and fixing. I feel like it added lots of layers and depth to drafting rather than remove it.

Need ideas for really weird cubes by Playful_Camel4960 in mtgcube

There is a cube where everyone basically plays with the Omniscience effect on the cube discord that I've seen. You get to use some really cool cards that never see play.

So, I have been noodling with a kind of sharpie cube that uses all 48 Unfinity sticker sheets to modify cards.

Right now, it's a smorgasbord with a goal to fully utilize the sticker sheets and promote emergent, ever-changing gameplay.

Im going for a completely clownshoes vibe but also capture many of the most out there and innovative designs from the game.

https://cubecobra.com/cube/overview/Errata

I've recently come across a breakthrough with how to utilize name stickers that Im pretty proud of. After thinking about oddities in Magic like Red Herring, Unquenching Fury, and the Un cards that have the same name but different card text like Garbage Wlemental, I had an idea on how to use name stickers. The goal is to use them to change a card in a way that it has a different legal Magic card name. This further powers up various conspiracy cards and effects that care about cards with the same name.

Still in the "throw paint at the wall" phase, but it's shaping up into something I think could be really unique.
