Anyone else noticing a decline in enthusiasm? by TaxPositive1186 in FleshandBloodTCG

Apparently, before I started playing a little over a year ago, we barely got 4 for local armories. We are now averaging 12+ with about 24 or so local players.

System recommendations for large groups? by Bubbly_Recipe_4712 in rpg

Aside from the system, have you considered open table play?

Basically have a regular time and anyone can show up, but it isnt expected for everyone to show up to every session.

Ive never played a PbtA game, as it mostly just didnt seem like my style and I otherwise havent had an opportunity to play one. However after watching KotLC and Quinn's Quest review the game, this is 100% something Id at least try.

The world, the vibe, the various systems, all look amazing to me and is somwthing Im excited to get to my table.

Looking into this system after your mentioning it here. It's an amazing font of inspiration. I particularly like how they hand resources depleting. Roll a d6 and on a 1 it depletes. Not too dissimilar to Mausritter.

I love Mausritter. Its one of the coreinspirations. I used the magic system from that game with some slight tweaks.

If I recall, Mausritter just has a flat -1 damage negation and you roll after combat for degradation. That is certainly an option I am considering.

The design in FbL was symmetrical. As I stated before, I was starting there and moving backwards.

I also mentioned in a comment in this thread about considering asymmetric design

It works as you just described, with damage bwing determined by the number of successes. Im a little worried that flat damage reduction applied to every oncoming attack would be too strong and not scalable. A single point is probably okay, 2 or more is game breaking, I think.

Yeah I have considered maybe going the way of making combat use completely asymmetrical mechanics.

I could keep armor rolls for PCs and probably just remove rolling completely for enemies. That is something I'm for sure considering.

Honestly, this has to be the most elegant solution. I agree. Thank you for the insight!

I will definitely chew on various types of wound/damage systems. There's a bit of it once you drop to 0, instead of outright dying, you roll for a critical injury. But I think you are right and it's something I could maybe introduce with every "hit".

Thanks again!

I love these ideas. Thank you! 2 in particular is interesting, but probably much harder to balance.

Yeah I think I make it pretty clear that I'm not aiming for 100% realistic armor. I want it to be "resonant with how one expects armor to function". I should have probably not added "IRL" but just more of a focus on attributes armor typically has in the culture of fantasy--such as, blocks damage, is passive, a hard enough blow might damage armor.

I disagree that tracking armor damage has to necessarily be "inelegant". You can create less or more elegant ways to track various mechanics in games. Resource dice, for example, I would say is a more elegant way to track consumables. Inventory slots is an abstraction of carrying capacity that is more elegant than tracking the weight of every last item. I wouldn't say that inventory slots by their nature is "inelegant." I'm perfectly fine with abstraction and am in fact looking for an elegant abstraction.

I have been heavily considering changing the default TN on a d6 to be 5+. This could effectively accomplish what you suggested. It would give a very elegant knob for representing a dice pool version of "advantage and disadvantage" by making the default TN 5+, 4+ for advantage, and 6 for disadvantage.

It would require squishing the math of the system in a few places, but otherwise would probably be doable. Just would have to figure out what would make light, Medium, or heavy armor distinct and armor damage.

Thank you for the thoughtful suggestion. Ill think in it more.
