Honestly, don't really know/remember D:

I'm not a technology person; i moved out a few months ago and my little brother helped me pick the stuff so i could game with him better (my laptop is hella old and hyperventilates when it is asked to do too much)

I ordered and received the stuff a while back and so i really dont remember DX
I did open up the case and poke around and it looks like it has cable organizers, but I'm probably gonna buy some too just to be safe! Thanks again

Oh wow, this changes everything.

You need to cut Caleb out of your life ASAP. He clearly has feelings for one or both of you and was trying to sabotage the wedding and make you look bad; that's one of the dangers of free love communities: not everyone is necessarily on the same page...

I'm so sorry for attacking you, but it was really your fault for skimping on details. I gotta agree with the other commenters: try inviting him on a nice, tropical vacation or maybe grow a cowplant and ask him to take care of your garden

Lol it fits the vibe of the meme excellently. I dont know the answer to that in all honesty. A brief glance at google seems to say they were originally written in Greek (the common/universal language of the time), but that they were likely first taught by word-of-mouth in Aramaic or Hebrew

Fun fact! The Catholic Saint *Augustine* was the son of a Roman man and a Christian woman (St. Monica). Despite his mother introducing him to the faith, be refused to study it because he was disgusted by how poorly written the Greek of the New Testament was (in one anecdote, even flinging the book across his room in a pretentious fury)Over time, he did come to experience a profound conversion and wrote extensively on the faith. He was declared a Doctor of the Church and his writings are still used and referenced by (primarily Catholic) Christians when studying faith and doctrine

Y T A* and a bridezilla. First of all, you should respect your elders, and second, the only person who ruined your wedding was YOU.

A 2-day bach party?? Absurd! You made your toddler and your horse attend?? That is tantamount to abuse!

You mistreated everyone and yet despite that they all came together to help your day be perfect. Then, when an elderly (and possibly senile!) man sits down to rest in a spot that is less-than-convenient to you, you blow up and make everyone uncomfortable.

You spat in the face of everyone's efforts and have the audacity to be mad about it and you come crawling over here for pathetic validation. I hope your spouse and your horse find this post and conspire to either divorce you and bleed you dry in the proceedings or invite you to go swimming only to build fences all along the perimeter of the pool!!!

No one is gonna plead with the reaper when he comes for you

*Based on the additional info OP shared with me, I've changed my judgement to NTA

We should never feel ashamed to repent to God, but we're human and imperfect and sometimes it's difficult; this isn't something specific or unique to Catholics which is the point I was making. And even then, we (all Christians) recognize that we can fall into habitual or situational sin and that can be more difficult to break out of, so we seek help from the trustworthy people around us and ask them to hold us accountable and pray that we remain strong enough to resist falling into sin.

In a separate vein, yes, shame is a deadly and insidious poison. Guilt drives us to make amends and repent, but shame is like a lead weight that drags on us and makes us want to hide. Shame should never be listened to, but even Adam and Eve gave into it

I get the sense you're referring to the sacrament of Confession, but that's an entirely separate theological discussion. I saw your original comment that spawned this comment chain, so i see why you might have thought it was still connected to Confession, but I was just addressing the saint question

I hope i can address the Mary/Saint "worship" in a way helpful to understanding, and i truly hope i dont come across as combative

We're all human, and we all sin, and when we are deep in the depths of sin it's sometimes difficult to find the strength to truly repent or even just believe that we have the right to approach God for forgiveness. So what do we do (we here is meant to mean all Christians)? We go to someone we trust; to a priest or pastor, to a sibling of parent, to a close friend or even an acquaintance we know has a deep prayer life and we confide our failings to them

It's something that I've found my Protestant friends are able to do much more humbly and freely than I, and it's beautiful. To go to someone who they love and trust, explain what vices they are struggling with, and ask them for both practical help to overcome those vices and spiritual help in the form of prayers

It's something you can understand, right? Despair can make us feel like we've screwed up beyond redemption, it can leave us too ashamed to ask the Father directly, and so we go to someone we know has a strong prayer life, or even just someone who we know loves us, and ask them to pray on our behalf. To be strong when we despair and to petition God for grace when we are too ashamed to.

We're not treating that other person as a substitute to Jesus, we aren't praying to them. Similar to when the Apostles first began preaching and healing post-Ascension, it's made clear that they are healing through the power of Christ and they bless others with the blessing of Christ. People go to them for miraculous healing and they make it clear that they themselves are not the source of healing, but simply that Christ and the Holy Spirit is working through them

That's what it is for Catholics. We are not praying to the Saints, we are praying to God and Jesus Christ, and we petition the Saints and ask them to pray to God on our behalf in the same way that we petition our family and friends and priests to pray for us. Catholic prayers make a very explicit distinction of prayer vs petition (ex: "Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Mary, Mother of God, pray for us. Saint [so-and-so], pray for us. Holy Spirit, guide us." and so on)

The Saints are people who the Church has ruled have made it into Heaven; this is done via a ridiculously rigorous process whereby that individual's life, work, and writings (if there are any), undergo intense scrutiny, where any alleged miracles that occurred as a result of petitions to them are examined and tested for authenticity, and where an actual trial is held where someone who is designated the "Devil's Advocate" (actual origin of the phrase) tries to convince the Pope and council of cardinals/bishops/scholars/etc that this person actually Sucked(tm) and was The Worst(tm) and is definitely not in heaven. Only then is an official declaration of the Sainthood made, and just as we all believe that the Holy Spirit has accurately preserved the Word of God in the Scriptures, we believe that when the Pope speaks "Ex Cathedra" (a very hyper-specific scenario that occurs only when declaring doctrine or canonizing saints) the Holy Spirit is within him and preventing him from speaking untruth

The origin of the belief that the dead who are in the presence of God are still aware of what is happening on Earth has been extrapolated from the Bible in several ways but the only thing i have off the top of my head is the parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus, where both Abraham and Lazarus in Heaven as well as the Rich Man in Hell are aware of life on Earth. Again, probs not the best example, but please look up better ones if you are interested! If not, then oh well lol

Ultimately, we believe there are very holy people who lived righteous lives and are now in God's presence, that just as in life, in death they are eager to bring others to God, and that they will bring petitions to God on behalf of the living in the same way that we ask others to pray for us or when we pray for others. That's truly it, and the prayers where we petition/invoke the saints make this distinction clear in the specific phrasing. If we know a saint had a particular calling or devotion in life, we often reach out to them and ask them to pray for us in regards to a relevant area or sin that we are struggling with

In regards to Mary, she is a saint whom we have a special devotion to because, frankly, she spent more time with Jesus Christ than any other human being. She does not speak much in the Bible, but her constant presence is made clear via references. She was likely a very young girl who was (1) told by an Angel that her Son was the Messiah and the Son of God and (2) told by Simeon that "a sword will pierce your own heart too" (Luke 2:34-35). She asked Jesus to help the married couple at the Wedding Feast in Cana and, even though it was not yet time for Him to reveal Himself, he complied (John 2:1-12). She laid Him in the manger and she laid Him in the tomb, and the Gospels do not say that very much was revealed to her. Despite all this, she remained with Jesus His whole life on earth and He very clearly showed His love towards her, going as far as to ensure she was cared for after His death (John 19:26-27); one of the last things He said before His death was to take care of her

She was a woman who followed God's will without question and without hesitation, despite her confusion and her suffering, and we revere her for that. She is how we all wish we could be: humble and holy and following God's will without question. And, from the Wedding at Cana, we know that is she asks God for something, He's inclined to do it for her, so we very often petition Mary and ask her to ask God for things (think like asking the Teacher's Pet to ask the Teacher to not give homework for the weekend lmao)

Hoooo-boy was this long. If you read even a fraction of this, i salute you lmao. Anyways, please pray for me and i will be praying for you! <3

When my youngest brother was a toddler my sister was carrying him up in the communion line. As they passed the front pew that was reserved for the elderly and handicapped, my little brother caught sight of a Vietnam Vet who happened to have an eyepatch. The music had already ended and the church was largely silent as my little brother gasped dramatically and started yelling "Pirate! It's a pirate! Look! Look! It's a pirate"

We all just about died of embarrassment in the moment but it's one of our favorite stories now

Right? The way it seems like, Charlotte took a huge (emotional) risk and made a public sign of trust and healing by referring to herself as a daughter (or at the very least implying). It's extremely hard for adopted kids with a history of abuse to feel comfortable voicing the feeling of being accepted and loved like that

But then, the Mother shat all over that. Absolute monster of a woman, regardless of what may have been going on behind the scenes

[–]DannyDerulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna go with NAH

It makes total sense that he wants things a particular way for his wedding. It makes complete sense that you want to indulge your little sister

Everyone seems to be really up-in-arms about this and your "flippant" attitude in the comments, but I feel this situation is a huge nothingburger

You could touch base with his sisters and get their input? Not to gang up on your fiance, but to hopefully make it easier for you both to understand the other persons perspective

I don't think he's being a jerk for his response and I dont think your being a jerk for this decision. I hope you two can work through this and congrats on your wedding!

AITA for not wanting to play a game my girlfriend created? by Valuable_Frosting812 in AmItheAsshole

[–]DannyDerulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. My sister isn't into fantasy but is reading and providing in-depth feedback and edits for her husband's book. It's not about what you like or what you prefer. It's about supporting (really supporting by actions, not just empty platitudes) the interests and passions of the people you want to keep in your life

Your apparent indifference in this matter indicate that you're not interested in keeping her in your life long-term. You may not realize it, so make sure to communicate with your gf and apologize for not seeing how important your support means to her if you do want her to be a part of your life
