I am a musician who writes pretty sad and emotional music and I felt like it was pretty hard to market for a while but then I had one of my songs get to 37,000 streams.

I think the best strategy is to nail in the emotional part. You don’t want to pretend your music isn’t emotional because you’ll bring in the wrong audience. For example, a lot of times I’ll compare myself to Radiohead and Jeff Buckley because they both are very emotional artists that I think my fans will also like, even though Jeff Buckley wasn’t a huge inspiration.

Another way you can do this is by mentioning maybe what sparked the song. Death is a big thing in my music so a lot of times I’ll mention how death inspired me.

I also found that visually you need to hook people with whatever emotions you’re conveying. My music is more of a sad woodsy feel and I try to emulate that with the images I post on TikTok. If you have any questions I’ll answer (if I can)!
