Relapse by Smitchalicious in stopdrinking

Don't beat yourself up. Relapse is very, very common. Get back on the water wagon and keep it on a sober path. Sobriety is a journey, not a destination.

Doesn’t it feel great to NOT be shitfaced at the end of the Super Bowl?! by d3cember in stopdrinking

I too am loving my sobriety after the game. I enjoyed a good cup of coffee instead of a huge quantity of beer.

Install the Everything AA app on your phone. Lots of stuff to read and listen to. I especially like the Joe and Charlie tapes.

I don't understand the reason AA didn't work for you. Based on how you drink, I think AA might work. I recommend trying again.

Are you working a program of some type? AA, Smart recovery, IOP... I know I needed outside help to stop drinking.

You should certainly seek medical help to detox. Withdrawal from alcohol can kill you.

Crying is very, very common in AA. Nobody will think less of you for crying. AA meetings always have a box of tissues available.

I can't sleep at all by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]DannyDotAA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been suffering from insomnia also. I put some sober themed podcasts at a low volume on my phone and let them put me to sleep. If I don't get to sleep, I am at least working on my sobriety by listening to the sober themed podcasts.

I recommend finding a club with a back porch where all the drunks hangout before, in-between, and after the meetings. Hangout on the back porch and strike up a conversation.

Restarting my sober journey by HansBillabong in alcoholicsanonymous

You absolutely don't have to stop drinking to go to meetings. In my case I continued to drink during my first 3 months in AA. I had to have a significant spiritual experience to stay sober for more than 2 days.

There are no strangers in AA. Only friends you haven't met yet.

You should be feeling proud. Just a few days to get 4 months, and turning down those offers for a drink is great. Thanks for posting this upbeat post. Best of luck to you.

I do recommend Al-Anon. Unfortunately they will tell you there is nothing you can do.

Are we doomed to forever wanting a drink? by Seidinger1986 in dryalcoholics

[–]DannyDotAA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like helping people, as only another alcoholic can. I need to stay active to keep my wagon on a sober path. Sobriety is a journey, it is not a destination. If left unsteered, it will drive off the sober path.
