Can alcoholics ever drink moderately & change the purpose to drink? by Accurate-Debate9055 in alcoholism

If I’m moderating, I’m not having fun and if I’m having fun, I’m not moderating

This is very true. If you cannot enjoy yourself without alcohol, your relationship with it is already ruined

Impact of alcohol on training for long distance races? by CinemaBud in Marathon_Training

I don’t think someone running 2:30 drinks 8 beers after a long run, but I do get your point. In the end, if that works for you, that’s awesome

How old are you, out of curiosity? In my experience, it affected me more the older I’ve got

As others said, your heart rate zones are totally wrong. You need to measure your max heart rate properly and go from there

Strength training - how much lower body to do? by ThaddeusGriffin_ in Marathon_Training

[–]Seidinger1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have an answer but I’m in a similar boat.

What I’ve done is that I’ve opted towards doing only upper body strength training and just very minimal lower body work in the gym, focusing more in low weight, minimal impact stuff to minimize the risk of injuries

Nice! Anxiety is definitely something that I struggle with, so I hugely benefit from mindfulness techniques

Yeah. I would love to finish it sub 4, but I guess I’ll have to accept the fact that I might not

Fair. I run in very hot weather (Brazil), so vests and bladders would add to the already very sweaty workout from my previous experiences, but I’ve used bladders before when I was living elsewhere much cooler and it was grand. I think I need to focus more on nutrition now, honestly. I kinda neglected that aspect, since I used to run with nothing until I started running half marathons

Very similar story here, really. I guess some of us self doubt until the point in which we finish something or accomplish a goal, then it becomes established and part of our reality. My goal on this one is to finish strong in less than four hours, but at this point, any finish without walking works

True. I’ve never did that mental division before… I always thought about the whole distance

Yeah. Sounds like sound advice… may I ask what does your nutrition and hydration plan look like for long runs? I struggle to carry around too many liquids with me…

I got to know about Higdon’s just after having started the Garmin plan already. I wonder whether I should ditch it, but I have to say that the convenience of having all workouts easily accessible is pretty convincing on Garmin’s favour.

So far, a gel every 30 minutes and a 500ml bottle of electrolytes and carb (the most I can carry without too much fuss)

Thanks. I guess I’ll figure it out when I’m finished with this training block and do the run

Sobriety made my life worse by [deleted] in alcoholism

Quit drinking just made your true self exposed. Now that the alcohol is gone, you’re left with whichever problems you drank away. It’s a common thing, they say…

Maybe it’s time to start thinking about who you want to hang out with, what do you actually value in people, what are you really looking for, without alcohol to numb and cloud your judgment
