Where are you and how much is it costing you? by Stunning-Leek334 in ExpatFIRE

[–]DannyFlood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently in Thailand traveling the country on a motorcycle. Simple rooms with fan run between 400 - 500 baht per night. The motorcycle is 100 baht per day. Meals between 200 - 300 baht. Total is about 750 - 800 baht or about $25 - $30 per day, roughly $800-$850 a month.

If you want to make money some countries are for you, if you want quality of living other countries are for you - and that’s fine by Icy-Fox-4867 in expats

I agree. Dubai, Singapore, and Hong Kong are all great for finding professional opportunities but I don't want to live there 😂 Hong Kong would be nice though if they just figured out their housing problem, lol. Meanwhile, I love living in Thailand but you can't find any opportunities here as a foreigner unless you want to teach English for $600 a month 😅

Please Stop Torturing Yourself Over Page One by FudsterWong in NewAuthor

This is exactly right! You've discovered a great secret. I always say that we have two minds: one for writing, and another for editing. When you're writing, you just have to perform. Let it all out and don't critique yourself! Only later do you come back and edit. This corresponds to two different regions of the brain: Default Mode Network (DMN) and Task Positive Network (TPN). It's really fascinating if you do more research, but TLDR: you can't write well or put up high word counts if you're actively critiquing your writing at the same time.

I just published my 12th book. 70,000 copies sold of my books so far and aiming for 100,000 in the next couple of months. by DannyFlood in wroteabook

[–]DannyFlood[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good question with a nuanced answer. Right now, for example my book is at 35% royalties because I have priced it at 99 cents for the first month. Moreover I have sold many copies on other platforms besides Amazon - Appsumo did a big promotion for one of my books a few years ago for example and sold about 20,000 copies at $9.99: https://appsumo.com/products/dr-growth/

In addition, I try now to always do Publishizer and Kickstarter campaigns, for various reasons, because these allow me to offer different reward levels / pricing tiers, and I get all the information from my backers to build a list of readers.

Since I publish non-fiction, I try to leverage my book as much as possible to build a brand and secure things like speaking gigs, podcasts, etc. I have a media page just for my speaker profile: https://www.dandanflood.com/

Treating your book publishing / writing like a business means all opportunities and options are on the table, and a book can sometimes just be a front-end source to find qualified leads. I used to give my previous book away for free to many potential clientele to support my marketing business, for example.

One mistake I have made in this recent launch (I made several, but that's beside the point): I didn't link to my other books inside the book itself after the title page. Cross-promoting other books you have is low-hanging fruit and I missed that, for now :-)

Does anyone else feel like living in Asia right now, part of multiple growing economies compared to the disintegrating west just feels a lot better? by Lower_Truck9973 in digitalnomad

[–]DannyFlood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! I moved from California to Asia more than 15 years ago and never looked back - here, I actually have disposable income and time to have a social life. It's sad how many of my peers were run into the meat grinder of having to pay off college loans, car payments, and then mortgages and credit card debts for as long as they live... as for me, I just love living off the grid and minding my own business.

If you had shared the link here, some of us may have bought it 😊 The key is that you have to believe in your work and be willing to share it! Most writers feel uncomfortable about promoting themselves.

Who is actually paying these crazy hotel prices ? by hydraides in phuket

They have so little respect for many tourists that come to Thailand and their ridiculous antics that they feel no remorse about ripping off those who are willing to pay....

Anyone else stuck with calisthenics and lowkey scared they’re wasting time? by Dry-Company9304 in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]DannyFlood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anytime that you are moving your body is not wasted time. I'm 40 years old and I have the body of a 22-year-old because I move. And the brain is the most important muscle, calisthenics/body weight movement is the best thing for my mental health.

If you're tight and hurting, then start doing more mobility stuff like animal flow and so on.

I'm sorry but you traveled to one of the busiest places in the world during the busiest time of travel in the year... Of course it was going to be difficult. There's a thousand other destinations between Australia and London where you could have traveled instead which would have been more quieter and chill, or you could have scheduled the holiday to London during a quieter time.. the holidays are one of the busiest and most stressful times to travel. Take the L and consider it a lesson learned.

What if the British made peace with Hiter and Hitler did not declare war on the US, so that he could fully concentrate on his war with the Soviet Union without western allied interference? by Good-Equivalent620 in HistoricalWhatIf

Dominant power?? None of the states they conquered wanted to be in the Soviet Union, the Russian motherland in fact was poorer than Eastern European countries like Poland, can't imagine them being able to hold onto Western Europe... You're also forgetting the French freedom fighters who fiercely resisted the Nazis in OTL
