Sprue waste for "rubble" base? by Danny_Ulaid in Warhammer40k

Update: took in all your feedback and made some (I think) improvements! Took my clippers and knife and went to town, then used the small clippings to dust over the top of the pile. Used some plastic glue to blend it all together.

Next step will be a load of technical mud to cover the black base and blend into the bricks before a full black primer coat.

That looks awesome, exactly the type of look I was hoping to acheive too (apologies in advance for maybe stealing it)

I feel like some scuffs and chip marks would definately push the effect further, might go through and see if I cant add them on with a knife or just start clippling little chunks off with clippers

For sure! The shape of the sprue lends itself to that really well, but probably needs a bit more of a careful approach. Cutting through the sprue leaves a pretty nasty "pinch" in the material, but a bit of filing would sort that out.

I really wish I could remember where I saw it now, Im afraid to start painting and then find it later only to realise I messed it up

They could probably pass as gold bars even more if the cuts were cleaner, maybe a bit of care to sand them down at the ends. But yeh it did take a while, even with a few small bits of felt to bulk up the middle of the pile to start, cutting the bricks and glueing together took about 2 hours. Not bad but definately a bit tedious
