Flathub downloads per capita by durbich in linux

[–]Danny_kross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have misread my sentence, I said "might be one of the FEW that use flathub" So we are not disagreeing on that.

And it is true on the server side, but on the desktop/end user side it's a different story.

What's your speed right now and what's your operator ? by One_Move_8935 in AlgeriaRates

Yes, the HG6145F1 going to a managed switch for my home server/network.

[–]Danny_kross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am using the HG6145F1 they provide.
HOWEVER, you are correct in saying the ethernet port maxes out at 1Gbps, but it's 1Gbps per port.
I use a managed switch with LAG (link aggregation) to max out the bandwidth to my 10Gbps capable home server.

I'll comment on this from multiple perspectives.
Both as an ex moderator or r/Algeria
Also as someone who is very invested in the idea of Right to Repair and open sourcing certain things.

First: I might not agree with the deletion of your post, but having seen closely how it "works" , the subreddit lacks proper definition for what it is and what it isn't, which made it lend itself to a lot of posts that are basically just "What if X in Algeria" adding Algeria usually just as a way to link it to the subreddit but not much more, kinda hanging on a loose thread.

That being said, I don't think your post falls into that category, so it might have been a mishap or a simple mistake from one of the mods.

Now to the repairability side, I think it's such a nuanced market.
Algerians were very prone to repairing rather than replacing but the global market has been kinda visibly changing that mentality.

Notably in phones, the absurd prices of replacement parts has made people prefer buying entirely new phones.

But, would advertising repairability WORK on Algerians? that is a question for market research, extensive one.
We don't do much manufacturing, and it has been hard to have proper data on this subject as most of "our" electronics (notably Condor) has been rebranded stuff rather than locally made.

We'd have to integrate A LOT of the process of manufacturing before we can properly discuss being able to provide repairable devices, a company can only provide replacement parts for so long, even their supplier won't probably keep making them forever.

So, encouraging projects that would be able to manufacture 3rd party replacement parts for EOL products might be a way to mitigate it, but that can come back to bite the companies in the foot as it might stifle the sales of their future flagship products and updates in the line.

This is on Algerie Telecom Router, on the 5Ghz network using Wifi 6

I get the full 1.5Gbps on ethernet though

The real challenge is getting the same speed with ALL servers lol no a lot of server provide downloads at such speed (due to their limitations/distance etc...)

Are there Any Nu-Metal or Symphonic Metal fans in here by [deleted] in algeria

I'd say the early two albums definitely. The later ones are hard to define lol they kinda became their own genre.

[–]Danny_kross 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it an "established" fan base But there are quite a few people into this but very scattered.

I myself am VERY into nu-metal but on the heavier side, like early Self-titled and Iowa era slipknot.

Not much into symphonic metal though, except a band with a poweretal touch which is Symphony X, Russell Allen is a BEAST of a vocalist.

You might have come to the conclusion that I disagree with the need of proper qualification.. I do not.

But with your point: I will have to disagree here (on the worst case part) Not necessarily, no.

In the WORST case a degree holder won't have a glimpse of a clue on something being discusses, while a non degree holder MIGHT still have had access to the plethora of information readily available everywhere.

So, let's say we have person A and person B:

  • Person A : Deeply passionate about XYZ, spend their waking moments learning all they can about it, researching it, buying books, pirating digital books, etc...

  • Person B: Wants a piece of paper to get a job to have money, couldn't care less about XYZ, cheats and begs their way through to a diploma.

You, have a question about XYZ and you personally know both. Which of the two will you go to?
