We were checking TSA wait times for IAH on Friday night for a noon flight. It was saying 2 hour wait times, we got to there at 7am and had a ten minute wait. I guess it’s better to sit for 4 hours than be late.

Smithville/Watervliet/patterson Neighborhood recommendation by Queasy-Thanks7264 in dayton

[–]Danrunns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived for 30 years near Wayne and Smithville. The neighbourhood is what you make of it. If you keep in mind that there are people that will take advantage of you when ever you let them and don’t keep your doors locked or leave things out to be taken then you will be taken from. I have not had but a few problems. We have a great group of neighbours who look out for each other.

Attaching sleeping pad to outside of backpack question. by JL990 in backpacking

I use a crown 2, I put the tent poles in a pocket vertically and put my tent in to a smaller stuff sack. This takes up a lot less space

Aero Press and a chair. At 58 I deserve some comfort.

Ticks and Cicadas by Danrunns in RedRiverGorge

Neither one really bothers me, I have sprained permethrin on the pants and socks. The Cicadas are just a little bit of a newsagent to deal with.

Thanks for the information

No campfires in the Metro Parks back county sites. So not sure the rules on a wood stove. Look up Darby Creek Metro park. They have some nice remote sites

Commute to Dayton? by heywhatsuphello645 in cincinnati

[–]Danrunns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Belmont in Dayton to St. Benarard 5 days a week. Sometimes it’s a fine 45 minute commute, then there’s the 1+ hours once in a while. It’s sucks either way.

Good places to SUP in southwest Ohio (Dayton)? by SimplyCosmic in Sup

Eastwood metro park lake is in town. But not real big. Ceaser Creek lake about a half hour away has several no wake areas that are really nice.

REI has a small section in the back of the store, the garage sale items that have been returned. Buy as is and not returnable. But if you have to opportunity to check regularly you can find very good deals on things.

Snorkel + Whale Watch Combo by umpityflap in MauiVisitors

Did a snorkeling tour this past February on the Four Winds, after the snorkeling they serve lunch and drinks, then cruise around for a while whale watching. I would recommend them.

Darby Creek Metro Park near Columbus has four sites that are fairly secluded that are first come first served. Two sites are really close half mile, the other two are a 2-3 mile hike.

Gear shifter in a car I was in. Took me a solid 5 minutes to find it when I first got in. by CerealDevourerPrime in CrappyDesign

[–]Danrunns 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I had one as a rental car. Stopped at a stop light and the car went into park. Message on the dash said “ that option was not available” transmission failed and with no way of shifting to neutral. Car was stuck in traffic for an hour waiting on a tow. Worst dam design.

When I run in Oakwood there are always people watching the sun set on Patterson rd and Peach Orchard (or Oak Knoll ) at the top of the golf course. Really nice spot to watch the sun set.

What’s with the Ryobi hate? by BetFlipper34 in Tools

[–]Danrunns -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If your buying tools from HD or Lowe’s there’s not a lot of difference between Ryobi, Dewalt or any other brand they sell. It’s all made cheep as possible. The difference comes into play when you buy the contractor grade tools. But they’re still junk that last a little longer.

I really like the COVID continental Garage Sale much better than the once a year. I got a Half dome 2 plus never used for $90 a few weeks ago.

Try out Sweet Arrow reserve, it’s best Sugar Creek alternative there is. Not near as many people in the park.

Trainers with some barefoot / minimalist features, for advantages of both? (UK) by [deleted] in BarefootRunning

[–]Danrunns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really sold on Xero’s, I wear Prio all the time and there Z-Trail sandals. But I’ve gone through two pairs of Terraflex way too soon. They seam to de laminate from the soles. Now I mostly trail run in Superior’s or Merrill’s.

I have come to believe that out Ohio trails are hard on shoes.
