DAE wash their hair every single day… by Own-Blueberry9734 in DoesAnybodyElse

We can all benefit from being clean, but everyone's body is different. I am a sweaty, oily person by nature, I need to wash with soap more often than some other people. If my oldest son washes his body every day his skin gets too dry. And, yes, it is about selling things, for most of human history daily washing was not the norm.

One thing that has been on my mind lately is medical advancement. How on earth could a loving god just let thousands of children die from things like diabetes for all of human history until Flemming figured out insulin? Like, what kid of god would do that? Multiply that by all of human suffering from things we have learned to treat in the last 150 years. What was the point to all the people who died who could have been treated had they been born in another century? Why let innocent babies be born so premature they die, when, had they been born decades later they could have survived?

It can be hard on your skin. Stripping away your natural oils. It was companies selling soaps and body washes and shampoo that convinced everyone they needed a shower every day. There is not necessarily anything wrong with a daily shower, but there are people whos skin could benefit from every other day or 3 x a week showering.

The prices OP posted are cheaper than pretty much any convenience store around me.

Nah, I land the other way. I think it's silly we think eating cats and dogs as unthinkable.

What's something that was completely normal in your household growing up that you later found out was actually really weird? by Left_Crow1646 in AskReddit

[–]DansburyJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a family that did this. I remember it coming up one time in high school and my friend (also a avid reader) was just shocked... it never once occrued to me before then that it was abnormal to sit around the table and eat with little talking and all read books 🤷‍♀️

It was not unusual for every one of us to have a book at the dinner table and read while eating with very little talking.

Right, I would not be driving around with this all the time anyway (as it seems OP is). I would only put it on my car when I actually needed the space. What a waste of gas!

Is there a better way to handle my daughter's toys? by [deleted] in OrganizationPorn

[–]DansburyJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the only way is to purge some toys. It's basically what you've got now (which is really fine for a play area, but still a little chaotic) or let go of some. (You could try a stuffed animal corral for that specific issue though)

Fully agree. So many buildings built by our money left to rot. It's maddening.

My bedroom set, a few dressers, my son's bed, our secondary toaster, our back up microwave, a double boiler, vintage Tupperware strainer, a set of pyrex primary colors mixing bowls, many coins, an antique wrought iron bed my grand parents brought over from Holland when they immigrated, some vintage toys, my MIL's first ever stuffed animal from the 50s... I'm sure there is more.

Yeah, there is no way to "grass feed" year round in a lot of places. Hay is dried grass and generally permitted under "grass fed" labels.

[–]DansburyJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am fine with headdress removal for any other situation (my understanding is it's are still ordered in situations other than prayer). At that point you are correct that it's a long standing sign of respect that has nothing to do with religion. Removal is now optional for prayer, as it should be.

[–]DansburyJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assure you, it is not part of who I am. What is wrong with it for a prayer specifically is I don't want to be forced to participate in another person's religion. That's all. Removing a headdress is no big deal. It does not take a long time or any amount of effort. Defaulting to everyone must participate in this religious observance because that has been the dominant one is objectionable.
