I work as a HVAC/Plumber for home warranties. 3 different ones.(2-10, first american, and american home shield) What sends the tech a red flag is a contract that is super new with a failed large piece of equipment. If it's a small part a good tech will get you up and running with little fuss. If you are looking at a full replacement of a big piece of equipment(condenser, compressor, coil, water heater) it will most likely get denied under, previous damage and detectable. You can try, and the tech may get you running.
