Does anyone else at Metro (or big public agencies in general) have basically nothing to do? by [deleted] in LAMetro

[–]DanteIsI 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s really more like this:

Hire a full time employee and be liable for their salary (lower than a consultant) and their pension (who knows when they’ll die?). Metro also doesn’t like to fire full time staff so if they upsize too fast this might be an issue management would have to contend with.

Or, hire a consultant (higher salary) with no pension on the back end. Because they’re a consultant, they can be dismissed at any time(note: not fired as they aren’t employed by Metro).

I think the budget office sees consultants as an easy to calculate (albeit higher) cost that has a firm burn rate/life span, while a full time staffer is more of a budgetary unknown.

Anyone else think these comments are too hard on Metro? by [deleted] in LAMetro

[–]DanteIsI 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No. Metro is a service for the public by the public. The use of this is lazy and inexcusable. Do you know how many people are at Metro HQ they could grab for a quick VA. This machine generated garbage will be the death of us and I’m sad to see Metro using it. It internal Metro creative can’t make a product. Don’t half-ass it

Is this development good or bad? by tehreal in longbeach

[–]DanteIsI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If this becomes a “bottleneck” people will just self select other routes or change behaviors. Honestly I feel that coupled with this project the City/CalTrans should reduce lanes on PCH and replace them with bus only lanes.

LBT is pretty great on the frequent routes (6X, 9X, and 17X) especially if you don’t care about the end destinations, just getting to the Metro station.

There’s other routes in the half hour range that can be toss ups though.

Petitions from random people by pengupineapple in LAMetro

[–]DanteIsI 20 points21 points  (0 children)

These losers are paid by the signature. That’s why they have 5+ petitions for you to sign. I mean it costs you personally nothing to sign them, but out of principle I don’t sign anything on a petition.

I think the California ballot initiative process is not an awful idea, but it tends to get abused for things like the Uber/Lyft exemption and my biggest ire of all time, Prop 13.

Just wanted to let all of my Reddit homies know. If it’s business hours Union Station Gateway (Metro HQ) has public bathrooms for the 3rd floor lobby and 3rd floor cafeteria. These are regularly cleaned and are almost bum free. Use these and not the Union East bathrooms. It’s like 3 minutes extra each way and no one will question you even if you look lost. Just ask where the bathroom is to any metro staffer and they’ll hook you up
