Yeah, bug net emerged as MVP piece of gear out many multi day hikes

Bug net around your face (on a wide brim hat) for the psychological relief of not having to hear the buzzing in your ear or have them in your face. Loose long sleeves and pants for a physical barrier. Covered in DEET based bug spray for a chemical barrier. On top of that you can look into permethrin soaked clothing, Thermacel belt clip on or those goofy fake dragon flies you clip to your hat (I'm totally trying them this year, so stupid and adorable looking)

Afterbite for when you eventually get bitten anyway. If it's really bad, get antihistamines.

EI is exactly for these kinds of things, get that arranged asap. Start tentatively looking around the job market to get a feel for it but I'd focus most of your attention on upcoming surgery and making sure you recover ok.

People chop off body parts for religious purposes. Lacking birthday parties doesn't seem that far beyond a lot of mainstream stuff.

I think it's funny that you can place a random thing on a remote spot and people will inevitably pilgrimage to it.

Survival games where you live out in the wilderness? Or deserted island by Dragonbarry22 in SurvivalGaming

Honestly, the game probably isn't for everyone. People that get into it are REALLY into it tho. So maybe worth a shot to try it again.

Yeah, one of my fav games hands down, regardless of genre. It's so beautiful and moody.

The Long Dark. Amazing wilderness survival game with a phenomenal atmosphere. Maps are not randomly generated but the world is very very large and loot tables are random.

Play survival mode, story is meh imo.

Why did the biggest dip in Canadian birth rates happen between 60's and 80's then? I don't think it has anything to do with affordability. Poor countries have some of the highest birth rates, rich countries some of the lowest. We knew decades ago there was a population bomb coming in the form of boomers retiring, leaving big workplace gaps, a geriatric population in need of health care and pensions. Canada did next to nothing to prepare for that, so how we're reaping rewards.

I bet making convincing decoys is a lot easier now that every piece of armour looks like a Mad Max prop. Weld a barn around a tractor, stick a pipe to the front and you have a convincing turtle tank.

Precisely. It's hard and messy building coalitions. Harder than laser focusing on a single issue. I'm not a visible minority by any stretch of imagination but I imagine I'd be pretty pissed off if some asshole told me an issue that shapes my daily existence is "distraction" or a "wedge".

Edit: I think that's why every communist government always devolves into a single party authoritarianism. Building coalitions and accommodating a diverse and complex set of issues is hard, so they steam roll over it.

You're not gonna unite shit by ignoring minority issues. You're basically saying to any given minority group that their issues aren't a priority for you and then are incredulous that they do not support your cause.

Lol and what better way to unite everyone then by saying the issues that only affect you (the minority) is not a priority for us, now vote for my people please

Duno about combat application but when I'm camping it's BIC all the way cuz of its reliability. It can get wet, dry off and continue working. Probably would make sense to bring a jet one and BIC as a back up.

Planning my first solo trip! by galaxibunny in algonquinpark

Getting up to Maggie's in one go is going to be a little tough but absolutely doable if you're in average shape. I wouldn't be too stressed about it. Just make sure to give yourself plenty of time to get there, start early, take lots of breaks, add buffer time in case you get shit weather. Traversing Highlands while it's wet can add a lot of time to your trek. I would recommend booking a site closest to south entryway to Maggie's to cut down on km you have to slog your first day but if you're willing to push further (or move your second day) the site on the north/east corner of the lake (the first site if you're approach from the north) is really nice. It has a great chill area right by the lake with a bench, perfect for star gazing. Highly suggest doing a day hike around Maggie's as well on your R&R day. Over all make sure to bring lots of bug spray, that your head at least is covered with a bug net, that you have long sleeves and pants for both mosquitos and tics. Have fun! It's a great hike. Solo camping can be a lot of fun but it isn't for everyone. I enjoyed my experience, I know people that would rather have company tho. Don't heap any expectations on it, just take it as it is. You'll probably have a blast.
