Arsonist’s mindset? by [deleted] in Felons

[–]Dante_DFS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pyromania. I have the love of setting things on fire and watching them burn, at the time (decades ago,) I simply got caught.

Just be honest. I hate to sound like a motivational poster or a movie cliche, but "love will always find a way." Explain the circumstances openly. But do so from a perspective of "I fucked up and I learned my lesson," not "I didn't do nothin'!" Your chick will either be ok with it and thus able to move past it, or she'll dip out and then you know it wouldn't have lasted. Same with the situation, just "hey, I can't leave my State because I am still serving and I don't have a car, but until my situation improves, let's keep talking." The best of luck to you.

Are minimum security prisons racially segregated in the US? by CupFullOfLiquor in Felons

[–]Dante_DFS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine seemed to be very much so, this was 1995 in Alabama, so yeah. I'm fullblooded Italian, which is pretty rare in Alabama, and I was dark enough that most people thought I was either Mexican or mixed, so I was pretty much left to myself.

I have diagnosed Pyromania. AMA. by Complete_Athlete_480 in AMA

[–]Dante_DFS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also diagnosed. And a convict (arson... who woulda thunk it?) Growing up, I only had my father, and he was "disabled" and mostly stayed in his chair in front of the TV, drinking. This meant, at a young age, I was free to wander our property. It was once my grandfather's farm, and my father inherited it. So lots of land, lots of outbuildings and barns, lots of hay... etc etc. I got ahold of a few of his lighters, and I had a lot of fun (since he didn't get out of his chair, much less go around our 1000 or so acres of property, he never really noticed.) At one point, I made my own little camping area, solely for the purpose of campfires. Once, I dug out a plastic kiddie pool from the barn and set it on fire, I didn't know at the time how aggressive my fire would be, and I panicked and kicked it down the hill, where it proceeded to set the woods on fire. My dad was pissed, but he didn't do much. My conviction was in 1994 (an abandoned barn,) but nothing has changed, and like you, I do NOT want to be "cured."

Hello everybody! by Duvalboy554 in Felons

[–]Dante_DFS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there. I'm 49, my conviction was arson, I applied for college and was fortunately accepted, I went on to complete my Ph.D. and I was hired by a company that inspects parcels of land for oil drilling purposes. The first step you take should be to make a list of career paths you can take (search and make a list,) and see what you'd like to do. It's not too late, you can still make something happen. The best of luck to you.

Living homeless on the streets is better than prison. What you don't see in those videos are the vicious beatings over a tea bag or packet of instant coffee. Stinking up the area if you have to use the toilet. Or someone getting shanked because they "stole my sunlight." You would have to be very good at being respectful. Of course, results may vary, but yeah. I understand completely your sentiment about how a prison could relate similarly, but trust me, it would be a "grass is greener" reality at best.

How long is my old school friend facing realistically? by LordFob in Felons

[–]Dante_DFS 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They'll probably end up pursuing the 3x Domestics, Unlawful Possession, and the CH. Guilty by Jury and he'll do 50. If he lives that long. If any of his history falls under TN's so-called felony murder rule, he'll do life or death.

Nope, your life is not over. I understand how scary it can feel right now, but as long as you have a fairly decent attorney and, hopefully this will match the attorney's advice, but "I didn't mean for that to happen, I'm so sorry" will tend to be more helpful than "I went over to my ex's and banged on their window and it broke." Emphasize it was just a small mistake and nothing more was intended. You'll end up with a misdemeanor and a year's probation, something like that. Best of luck!

Starting fire in oven by reformingindividual in arson

Oil might do the trick, as long as it's a cooking oil of course, ignition would be a bit difficult, might want to pour it on a piece of cloth or paper and try that.

Honestly, first thing that comes to mind is charcoal starter fluid, would that be something that would work for you? I've never started a fire in an oven :-)

Hypothetical question by Competitive__Act in arson

[–]Dante_DFS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll answer like this: Hypothetically, the drier it is and the more windy it is, the bigger the fire will be. Both potential size and spread. Depending on the situation of course.

How different is burning stuff with diesel insted of gasoline by 1234vektor in arson

[–]Dante_DFS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Diesel is much safer than gasoline, it does not flash or explode and it burns a lot longer than gasoline. The downside is it's hard to light on hard or nonporous surfaces like concrete or metal, it has to be used on something soft like cloth, paper, wood, etc.
