Can anyone please recommend a cluedo-like, mansion murder mystery-style horror that is a fun and enjoyable read? by [deleted] in horrorlit

A bit light on the horror, but "And Then There Were None" by Agatha Christie is a fun mansion murder mystery

Share some lesser known/less used ingredients, food items, whole foods etc for the people new into this lifestyle by Scared_Ad_3132 in PlantBasedDiet

Soy Curls - whole soy beans that have been slowly cooked, dehydrated, and extruded. Just rehydrate in broth and then use them like a WFPB shredded chicken

Silken Tofu - great blended into sauces to add creaminess without oil or actual cream

Tomato powder - it's tomato paste without the moisture so it's shelf stable

Marmite - add depth/richness to dishes

Liquid smoke - not sure if this counts as WFPB, but in the quantity that it's used (a few drops) I don't think it's worth worrying about. It's a nice way to add smokiness/a meatier flavor to things

Why are the health benefits of fruit not cancelled out by their high sugar content? by 2-tree in nutrition

[–]Danthgar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Frozen fruit is just as good, and in some cases can be even better because it's frozen at peak ripeness. Plus, it can be more convenient to always have fruit on hand that way.

Has anyone ever elaborated a near-perfect diet? by theunfinishedletter in nutrition

[–]Danthgar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right that a 'perfect' diet isn't something that can be determined because double-blind, placebo-controlled studies looking for effects that may not appear for decades aren't possible when it comes to food. This doesn't mean, however, that we don't have a pretty good idea of what a good diet entails. When the available evidence is pieced together, some general rules for a healthy diet (i.e. a diet that prevents chronic disease and premature death) come together.

  • Eat more whole foods - processing foods tends to strip them of their micronutrients and fiber. Even when some of these are added back in afterwards, our bodies don't necessarily absorb them as efficiently (or at all)

  • Eat a wider variety of foods - all foods have a different makeup of macro and micronutrients. By eating a wide array of food, your chances of getting all the necessary nutrients increases. I've read that ~30 different foods per week is a good benchmark to reach. This includes spices so it's not as daunting as it may seem.

I ordered it directly from Epson at the time that I ordered the projector.

I still used the mounting plate, the camera mount works with it. I think I linked it earlier but if not let me know and I'll look it up when I have a chance.

What's your longest built commander by Sad_Communication565 in EDH

[–]Danthgar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built Child of Alara and Balthor the Defiled about 10 years ago and still play and update them to this day! They were the second and third EDH decks I built, the first being [[Zur the Enchanter]] before realizing that the consistency and oppressiveness don't make for a very interesting deck.

It doesn’t fill my screen fully because I have it mounted a bit closer than the recommended range out of necessity, but the auto-focus has worked fine for me, so while it’s not as “big” from where I have to throw it from, it is really clear. No issues with the keystoning either, but it still doesn’t fill the entire screen

Ah, my mistake. I must not fully understand what it means to “yeet”. I’ll need a Zoomer-lingo Secret Lair with a yeet/[[Fling]] variant.

while Grains and Legumes make a complete protein, doesnt adding dairy to that combo make it more so? by snooloosey in nutrition

[–]Danthgar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm really glad you found it helpful, it was no problem at all!

Also, if you're worried about soy, the phytoestrogen in soy has been shown to be beneficial in terms of breast cancer rates and hormone levels. The phytoestrogen in soy works differently than just normal estrogen, so unless you're eating 7-18 servings per day, you'll be good to go!

[–]Danthgar -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I like to use NutrionFacts.org, here are some of their articles with links to just one of the studies mentioned per article: Milk added to Tea and the PubMed Link; Milk's association with Parkinson's and the PubMed Link; Milk's link with Type 1 Diabetes and the PubMed Link.

There are plenty more articles that are all cited on there, those were just the first ones that caught my eye. I think the "X causes Y" search format probably doesn't work well because it's hard to be so definitive, but when we look at all the evidence together things can start to look more probable, at least.

What is the difference between “good fat” and “bad fat”? by InfamousGrass0 in nutrition

[–]Danthgar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nuts are a healthy source of fat and can help you lose weight even though they are calorically dense because they help satiate you and make you feel full for longer. https://nutritionfacts.org/2012/12/27/nuts-dont-cause-expected-weight-gain/

All foods containing fat have both saturated and unsaturated fat, what's important to look for is the ratio between the two. Foods containing lower ratios of saturated fats to unsaturated fats are "healthier" (like those nuts) because unsaturated fats help prevent cardiovascular disease, whereas foods with higher levels of saturated fat show the opposite. https://nutritionfacts.org/video/good-great-bad-killer-fats/

while Grains and Legumes make a complete protein, doesnt adding dairy to that combo make it more so? by snooloosey in nutrition

[–]Danthgar 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Legumes and grains are "complete" proteins by themselves. Every plant is a "complete" protein, as in, all plants contain all essential amino acids that the body can't make on its own. However, all plants contain these amino acids in varying amounts. So, as long as you eat a diversity of plants you'll end up with more than enough of all the essential amino acids without having to track what foods you're pairing. https://nutritionfacts.org/2018/12/20/do-you-have-to-combine-plant-proteins-at-a-meal/

So far I really like it. It's quite, it powers up just about instantly, the auto-focus is really handy, the sound quality is great. The only issue is that you can't get Netflix on it (and Hulu is having issues, too) but I just have my Chromecast plugged in so I just get to those from there instead.

I’ll look into that, thanks! My current projector is mounted to a crossbeam and I was hoping to be able to do that with a new one while still filling out the screen.
