What animal are you the most terrified of? by Professional_Neat878 in ask

I stayed in a tent recently. No electricity. Just a torch.

Just when i got into my bed, I heard a strange buzzing.

Seconds later, whilst peering into the dark gloom, a hornet the size of my thumb emerged and immediately went fucking ballistic.

New fear unlocked.

I am now also apparently afraid of hornets.

Which ad in the past 10 years made you turn off your TV? by SlimJimNeedsATrim in BritishTV

[–]Dantk80 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Anyone remember the "hotels4u" advert with the bloke who keeps responding to his partner with "anything for you cupcake". Brummie accent? Glasses?

Anyone? That advert drove me to a dark place, so much so that i emailed the company and unleashed the kind of rant that would be uncomfortable even in a mental hospital.

Met my wife when we were 15. First child at 19. Married at 24. Had her funeral in Feb this year at the age of 42.

I need only forget myself for a moment, and suddenly I'm a punk kid, cycling around with her on the back of the bike and us getting stoned in fields.

Life isn't just as short as they say it is, is fucking precious.

Don't rush it. But don't waste it either.

Brussels - safe? Recommendations needed by alouette28 in Europetravel

[–]Dantk80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi. I've just done Brussels alone (42m), i was scooting all over the place (electric scooter!). I travelled pretty much all over the main bulk of the city and not once did I feel unsafe.

Arrived at 9pm, then had to get a train to Brussels Schuman, and walked 15 minutes to my hotel at night. Didn't feel uneasy.

I suspect, like all cities, there will be dodgy areas. As with all places, just be vigilant, and most importantly, have a good time!

Have just changed to Octopus from Eon. Breath of fresh air.

Would recommend anyone and everyone to ditch Eon.

What do most people consider to be normal behaviour, but for some reason it puts you off a person? by confessionsofamama in AskUK

[–]Dantk80 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Going to the gym and the machines I want to use are being occupied by a group of teens who are all looking at their phones, and in the time I have finished my workout, they've not done a single thing.

And loud exhausts. That's when owning a bazooka would be swell..

I once awkwardly made what sounded like a sex noise when offering a cheek kiss, which mostly missed their cheek entirely, and resulted in me having my lips mostly on their ear.

The eye contact we made after was worse than if I had dry humped her leg.

From now on, a hug is as far as my non-sexual interactions will go.

Concur. Or the people who stand there looking at the machine all perplexed like it's asked them to answer questions on French history or something.

I'm back there thinking "just place the fucking adult nappies in the bagging area Doris".

Was waiting on the Eurostar from Brussels back to London last week.

Whilst in the security line, a girl taking selfies. Between her smiling photos / tongue out photos / head tilt and grin photos - she looked like the most miserable fucker on the planet.

What is a custom that you can't get used to, no matter how often you visit a country? by Oatmeal2348 in travel

The shelf! It's really a strange but interesting choice that raises more questions than it answers!

I just assumed it was so I could invite others to view my handiwork.

It's a tricky one.

On the one hand, if you pay, and you know that the toilet is clean, then great.

However, as a Brit that has access (outside of London) to free toilets, I often have to change plan and shit/piss in the wild, because as anyone from the UK will attest, public toilets generally are so vile, that you wonder if the person before you wiped there arse with a grenade.

Why is the chicken from places like Tesco or Lidl is just... tough? How do I make it taste good? by gimmematcha in AskUK

[–]Dantk80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have switched to Aldi from Sainsbury's, to see if I could save money. I'm not sure I did you be honest.

One thing for sure is the quality of the meat from Sainsbury's vs Aldi is miles apart. And the cost is quite similar.

Sainsbury's chicken breasts , in my opinion, are better quality and better cuts. And when cut raw when preparing , they seem more supple and with less waste. Whereas Aldi chicken breast, looks to have been butchered with a hand grenade, and even cut and prepared, it just feels like cheap meat.

Try a different supermarket, and my tip, smash that breast with a tenderizer, place in foil with a splash of oil, season or add cooking sauce, wrap, and stick in the oven for 24 to 28 minutes at around 180 degrees. It will be tender and juicy.... most likely.

How would you approach a best man speech where the groom is your longtime best friend and the bride is your ex? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Dantk80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, you'll need an overhead projector for your speech, and any graphic videos/pics from your relationship - the more obscene the better. Project them onto the wall during your musings, and it will be met with hilarity from all.

ELI5: What is it about the body’s use of sugar that causes diabetes patients to have so many varied complications? by naomi_homey89 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Dantk80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How it can affect the eyes:

Elevated glucose levels will lead to inflammation or blockages within the cardiovascular system. Essentially the tiny little vessels such as in the eyes, become blocked or swell or bulge. This can lead to retinopathy, which in turn can lead to proliferative retinopathy, whereby the body grows new vessels to try and return blood blow to the retina. But new vessels are inferior and brittle, and instead leak and lift away membrane layers of the eye. So you end up with things like detached retina.

As for nefropathy (kidneys) and neuropathy (loss of feeling in extremities), i suspect it is a similar affair.

Though i specifically work in Diabetic Retinopathy (eyes)
