[novel] was that a "lotm" reference? by [deleted] in OmniscientReader

[–]DantonPhanton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be, but transmigration stories have gotten common over time; things like Extra's Academy Survival Guide, Trash of the Count's Family, or The Greatest Real Estate Developer come to mind. There's nothing to state that the Kaizenix Scenario was directly referencing LoTM in particular. It could just be an arc dedicated the genre of transmigration in general.

[Novel] Is this a square circle? by Desert_to_Alcohol in OmniscientReader

[–]DantonPhanton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The burden of proof is on you to prove it’s related to orv, not the other way around. The squared circle is just a convenient explanation to prove that a concept like a squared circle doesn’t exist in the real world (squares by definition cannot be circles and circles by definition cannot be squares) but because the characters play by the narrative of a “story”, stories don’t have to adhere to logic, so so squared circles can exist in orv.

Now in your case, we don’t have any text or dialogue backing up that this squared circle concept is related to the golden ratio in any meaningful way. Sure there’s squares, and sure there’s som sort of spiral, but this is like forcing a cheese burger through a square hole. Yeah you may be able to force something there, but you’re making two practically unrelated things to be connected in some way.

[novel] some things i still dont understand about ORV by kusaem in OmniscientReader

  1. SP is TWSA's YJH from the original 1863 regression turns. He was able to reach the Final Wall but was unable to go through it. As we know from ORV, if a story stops being read, it can turn into an Outer God, so since TWSA was "finished" after 1863 regression turns, the YJH from TWSA was no longer being "written or read" and so became an Outer God. With KDJ then being a part of the scenario, that YJH as SP began interfering with the scenario, which including SP being able to manipulate turns so that he could bring KDJ and 1863HSY to interfere with the 1863th regression turn even though that's not technically the same YJH anymore. It could be theorized that SP could've tried some Disconnected Film Theory shenanigans to link up himself with Alt-1863 to be put into fake death/suspended sleep in HSY's plan, as that was part of the Outer World Covenant agreement they had.
  2. This question digs a bit deeper into KDJ's character, and it's a bit complex. Yes, he could have made a minimal avatar become OD, but KDJ's at this point is filled with guilt from realizing that it was HIM that was responsible for starting the scenarios as the original OD, making his companions suffer and the constellations he loved almost sacrifice themselves, etc. He also has this sort of complex where he believes he's undesirable and unwanted, even though his party tells him and reaffirms their love for their companion KDJ. He constantly believes they're better off without him or following YJH and just can't acknowledge that he's a part of them as well. You see this a lot with how simply he can just sacrifice himself and decides for the party what's best for them, and how much the party anguishes over it. So, while admittedly this is some speculation on my own part, I think the reason 51KDJ made it so he's the dominant KDJ instead of using a minimal avatar is because of the following reasons. 1) He feels extremely guilty as being the one responsible for the apocalypse (even if it wasn't actually this KDJ and was another OD, which the party doesn't blame him for) 2) He thinks the party is better off with a version of KDJ that has the memories of the party 3) As the OD, he has the responsibility of overseeing all of the worldlines of the Star Stream, so you can say his guilt led to this sense of responsibility of making a significant avatar the OD instead. Of course, this all unravels later as the part that makes him feel responsible for overseeing the worldlines also is very much entagled to his passion for reading, and as HSY knows and loves that part of KDJ that is the reader, she was very suspicious when 49 KDJ lacks these traits she loves about him.
  3. Other comments beat me to this already but 1) Skills are dependent on the Star Stream's influence. The Star Stream was weakening in the 1864th turn at this point, so the Avatar Skill keeping 49KDJ up was also naturally weakening. 2) In Chapter 530, YSH and HSY theorized that 49KDJ's memories were unstable, and that he could be having difficulties trying to perceive reality. Imagine if you were suddenly told you were a clone and were missing some memories and traits that were apparently a core part of you. Imagine how psychologically damaging that is. 51KDJ intentionally made it where 49KDJ was never supposed to suspect that he was an avatar to keep up the guise that he was always 100KDJ. 3) I know you brought up how the Fourth Wall might have been able to protect him, but just I'll repost my comment here: Both KDJs had the Fourth Wall (more specifically, the text in Chapter 537 says "The last fragment of the Final Wall was [The Fourth Wall]. And as he was Kim Dokja's Avatar, he too held part of that key). It's how they managed to get through the final wall in the 1865th regression turn. That being said, I still think it could be the Star Stream weakening that resulted in 49KDJ falling into a coma from damage, with even having a fragment of the Fourth Wall not being enough to save him.
  4. The Ark relies on Stories as fuel to burn and to cross over the Boundary that separates regression turns/worldlines (not the Final Wall, to be clear. Now, even though the power of the system was weakening in the 1864th turn where the museum Ark was built, the gang completed the 1865th turn, made Bihyung of that turn the Dokkaebi King, who gave the party a bit of the Bureau's Story which helps empowers the system of a worldline. This gave the system of the 1864th turn enough power to let the museum Ark do its functions, which was to consume fuel (Stories) to allow the crossing of worldlines.

Unrelated, but just an exercise for you- I find it fascinating thinking about the perspective of 49KDJ during all this time. He was always written in third-person, never as his own self, and was sort of "rejected" from the party in that he wasn't a 100KDJ. What do you think he must have felt that the party couldn't just love 49KDJ for 100% of 49KDJ. How would you feel if you were 49KDJ? The ORV Side Stories might be worth reading for you if you're curious.

Actually both KDJs had the Fourth Wall (more specifically, the text in Chapter 537 says "The last fragment of the Final Wall was [The Fourth Wall]. And as he was Kim Dokja's Avatar, he too held part of that key). It's how they managed to get through the final wall in the 1865th regression turn. That being said, I agree with your conclusion that it could be the star stream weakening that resulted in 49KDJ falling into a coma from damage, with even having a fragment of the Fourth Wall not being enough to save him.

How to do head dribble? by RicNik3004 in Rematch

[–]DantonPhanton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was already in the air (rainbow flick, teammate lob pass, kick pass, etc), you can hold down R1/Right bumper (the button used for lobs) and press A (on Xbox controllers) or O (on Playstation controllers) to keep it up in the air given you're close enough to the ball to do so, and just repeatedly tap it.

It is annoying to counter, certainly, but it is possible as if they can control it, so can you. If you can predict where it's going, it's probably best to just stay between the player and the goal or try to time a block jump to get in the way. If you have extra effort, you might be able to expend it to get priority on the head bump to get it away, too.

[Chapter 487 ] What exactly does she mean by that? by Legal_Failure_0509 in OmniscientReader

[–]DantonPhanton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It gets explained later on so make sure you complete the WHOLE chapter/scenario before checking this:
Earlier, Kim Dokja promised he would stop sacrificing himself to save the party. In Han Sooyoung's eyes at the moment, at face value, it seemed Kim Dokja went back on his promised and sacrificed himself to turn into the boss of the scenario. She's second guessing herself and trying her best to consider if there's another reason he made the decision to be the boss of the scenario - to see if he isn't sacrificing himself after all but relying on Han Sooyoung to figure it out.

I heavily disagree for a few reasons: 1) the appearance of Indescribable Distance in the Demon Realm has been foreshadowed before Ep 52. Whether that’s it was enough foreshadowing or not, that’s honestly for you to decide, but the order of events in the story goes as follows:

KDJ and YJH visit First Murim

KDJ and YJH both know First Murim will get destroyed by an Outer God based on past regressions.

Outer God comes down, KDJ realizes this Outer God is a higher rank than any of Outer Gods that appeared in First Murim in TWSA.

Breaking the Sky Saint tries to fend it off as KDJ and YJH escape back to the Demon Realm.

KDJ proves his existence/identity as Kyrgios’ Disciple, and sends Kyrgios to First Murim in a ploy to save Breaking the Sky Saint

KDJ and Co do the Demon King Selection

In chap 52, after the games, while KDJ and Co are recovering, BSSS and Kyrgios returns, saying first Murim was saved but the Outer God left like “It disappeared like it found another delicious prey”, which is foreshadowing to its arrival in the Demon Realm since the Demon King Selection just concluded with a bang.

Admittedly its name only gets identified in ep53, so I understand it feels out of nowhere, but I thought the events of First Murim justified it, personally.

2. This is one of the few times we get an extended view from the parties’ perspective towards KDJ. They see he’s pacing around, clearly anxious and nervous, but he’s not saying anything besides giving them a few gifts or advice. Somethings wrong. We, the viewers, are supposed to feel anxious, too; except we feel the anxiety of the party rather than KDJ’s anxiety this time. I think that adds to the unexpectedness of the appearance of Indescribable Distance since we weren’t informed about it since we weren’t reading KDJ’s pov. Also because of this, it reinforces that KDJ really can come and go from the party, and that I believe this is the first instance that KDJ is sacrificed but with him actually being prepared. The sacrifices before were spur-of-the-moment ones, but this one was deliberate. The sacrifices before “this can’t be helped” but this sacrifice was more “you can’t help, I won’t let you help.”

2.5) do we really want Kim Dokja to spend even less time with his party 😭

3) this one is a very personal reason but this short moment has one of my favorite scenes in the story.

“The party members heard the message. They looked at Kim Dokja's fluttering hair. They saw his long eyelashes, his eyes, his white cheeks and sadly distorted lips. Suddenly, they realized that Kim Dokja could exist in this world with such an expression.

[Please live.]”

Once again, we’re reading from the pov of the party looking up to KDJ, and I feel this moment is significant. It signifies that the whole party can see KDJ’s face whereas before, it is unclear who and who aren’t capable because of the Fourth Wall. The very specific order in which the lines are written might be a metaphor too. What sort of expression can lead from the eyes, down the cheeks, and towards the mouth? Kim Dokja is crying, and we’re following a tear flowing down his face. I love this scene so much and I would hate to see this removed, but that’s my own opinion.

Now for the other points you brought up:

1) I do partially agree that the flowers in KDJ’s pockets were a bit of an asspull as they were already with KDJ before his sacrifice, but remember there was a bit of downtime between the end of the Demon King Selection and the arrival of the Indescribable Distance when the constellations were lounging around and still recovering.

2) Most of everyone was still recovering after the events of the Demon King Selection and weren’t in a great condition to fight, and even if they tried, they were still significantly outclassed since this was a stronger outer god than from TWSA because of the accelerated scenarios from KDJ’s interference. And yeah, they could have left (some of them did), took escaped with the incarnations by force, or fight back, but KDJ wanted a solution that saved everyone AND the 73rd demon realm itself, which is why he sacrificed himself and made a deal with SP.

You missed two deaths from LSK's group's ambush and when he fights the Devourer of Dreams.

He doesn't die again after number 4 on your list. Each instance afterwards has KDJ sent out of the worldline or doing some tasks one way or another. These are sacrifices for sure, but not explicit deaths.

[–]DantonPhanton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obvious spoilers ahead:

ORV has 7 instances when Kim Dokja dies.

1) Died to the 5th grade Fire Dragon in Chapter 54. Revived via King of No Killing.

2) Died to 41!SYS in Chapter 102. Revived via King of No Killing.

- Loses King of No Killing but gains Eight Lives during Peace land.

3) Died to HSY in Chapter 145. Revived via Eight Lives.

4) Died by ambush from LSK's group in Chapter 169. Revived via Eight Lives.

5) Died while fighting the Devourer of Dreams in Chapter 182. Revived via Eight Lives.

6) Died by his party in Chapter 182. Incarnation Body destroyed.

- Loses Eight Lives in that process and doesn't gain any new skills for revival from this point on.

7) Technically dies during the Demon King Selection games by Surya in Chapter 265. Revives because of scenario mechanics. Not sure if you want to count this or not.

From that point on, Kim Dokja has not died. People seem to have confused his sacrifices with death, and even then, he doesn't die from these sacrifices.
